Kind of grasping at straws here, but Twinbrook is not well known for being so difficult to play properly. It is, however, relatively resistant to being overpopulated unless you have added a lot of housing, which given the map layout, would require much building over swampland. What kind of resident population are you looking at? On City Hall or an in-game computer, NRaas > MC > Demographics > Population > "X" to dismiss the filter. The numbers of homeless and service may be interesting too, but it's really the number of residents here we should be concerned about. I've taken TB to over 160 residents and had to find creative ways to scale back from that as the average number of residents per household became way too high for the game engine to manage properly. That and half of them must have picked up the same LTW because half of them ended up trying to cram themselves into the same two or three rabbithole career lots every morning until I stepped in and rearranged their careers and LTWs for them.

Have you tried dialing SP's progression down to one of the two slower speeds to see if that brings relief?
NRaas > SP > General Options > Adjust Speed

Do you switch or have you habitually switched active households using a Dream Catching type of switch that preserves promised dreams and opportunities? If so, you might have too may Dream Managers running on this world and that can be a real drag on performance. How many is "too many" varies by play style and world, could be three or thirty. On City Hall or an in-game computer, run MC > Sim > Basic > Family Tree (or Focus, something harmless like that), and filter to Has Dream Manager. How many sims show up besides the 8 in your active household? We can't selectively switch off Dream Managers if this is part of the problem, but we can switch them all off at once. NRaas > MC > Town > Drop All Dreams and Opportunities (this won't affect your currently active household at all).

Have you added Register to better manage the Role/Service Sims and Traffic to help prevent vehicular over-spawnage as suggested? Also check on the ages of your Role Sims. If any of them are due or overdue to age up and stuck with negative numbers of days before their birthday, the game could be trying to push them to age at the same time as it pushes them to staff their assigned stations with the net result that they can do neither (then the game gets confused and performance suffers).

You may also want to consider GoHere as it helps with world routing.

On the curfews, NRaas > SP > General Options > Options:Situations > Options:Grads/Proms/Curfews should show two general settings, one for days of the week and one for whether work/school nights are taken into consideration. (SP Extra add-on module required)

The rest of the settings, begin and end times and whether to strictly enforce or not, are on Town/Household/Caste/Sim Options. Which to use dependis on how global or particular you want to be with the settings changes. (SP Extra add-on module also required here)

Okay, let me answer in order.

I'm not sure on the number of residents in game currently. But I'll check first thing when I'm back in game.

I've never changed the SP speed that I know of---I'll see where it's at in game and slow it down to see if that helps.

I have never switched households in my town jump game.
I don't even know what a Dream Catching type of switch would be!  But I will check to see who Has Dream Manager, just so I know.
In the games that I have switched households, I switch through edit town. Is that bad?

I haven't downloaded Register yet, but I will do so before I leave the site!
I have noticed that some of my role Sims and others do get stuck aging.
And usually by week 5 or 6 in a town, I've lost role sims for the festival booths.

I'll get Traffic too, most of the time my vehicles at the 3 am check are under 100.
But sometimes 1000 to 4000, and I had an over 12,000 once! (my game wasn't freezing or doing anything odd though)
But I think that was in my Aurora Skies game where I was constantly switching active households and didn't really have a lot in family or personal inventories. I will be doing a major purge of inventories in my TJ game to see if that's still the issue.

And Go Here sounds like a good idea too.
Isla Paradiso is my next town and I think I may need to either get the better version that's all fixed or at least do some of the fixes recommended. Or it will be a very short stay there!
If I get the fixed version do I need to take the original EA version out of the game or will the fixed one have a different name?

And if I want to change the curfews, I'll be downloading SP extra too! :)

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

A dream catching switch keeps intact the dream managers of the sims you leave behind when you switch to another family.  That way, you can come back to the original family and still see all the promised wishes that those sims had when you left them.  But dream managers take up a lot of resources, so having a few dozen active in one save can seriously slow things down.  It sounds like this isn't a concern for you, though, since you've never switched active families in this game.

It also sounds like you really do need Register and Traffic.  The thousands of spawned vehicles can definitely drag down performance, which might not be noticeable in a new save but will have a much larger impact on a long-running one.

With Isla Paradiso, the best fixed version was made by ciane, who posted her work over on the Sims forums.  She provides a save, not just an .nhd file, that you can play forward however you like; there's no need to mess with the default IP files.  I think that you could just grab the .nhd file and add it to the save folder for your existing game, but check with igazor on that.  Or you could copy ciane's fixes in your own game—she documented all the editing necessary to make IP playable.

Okay. I downloaded and installed Register, Traffic, Go Here, and SP extra.
I have population set to 0 for unlimited so as to increase babies and future spouses for heirs, but can put a limit if needed.
I checked population and I have 299 residents.
But that includes 56 tourists, 60 service sims, and 49 pets, if I'm looking at the correctly.

I checked Register and left the tourist limit at 10.
I let the game run a few minutes, after Nraas SP loaded, and checked the population again and it showed 300 residents, with 46 tourists, and 65 service sims. I didn't look at pets again.
Will tourists go down to 10 with the limit in Register?

Then I checked the Resident population per your instructions (would have been quicker to follow your instructions first)!
Residents 110, Service 70, Homeless 4, and Tourists 46.

For service sims, I checked the list and it seems reasonable enough with 1 or 2 service sims assigned to a role.
There are 4 dancers and 3 each of the resort maintenance sims. But I don't have any resorts in Twinbrook and will probably get rid of the ones in Isla Paradiso, so don't know if that role needs to be elimated or not.

But how do you do a stuck aging check for them? Or for anyone in town really?
I usually just get the message and if it's a young sim, go find them and age them up manually.

I checked Has Dream Manager and only the 6 older sims in my active family are listed.
I assume the kids will show up when they're older and have wishes?

With SP extra curfew is set at 0 for begin and end times, so I'm assuming that means there isn't one unless I make one, correct?
Since I want to check out the MC visiting scenario, I'd like to leave it that way for now so my younger guests don't leave.

The game is still freezing a bit, but it's not as bad as it was last night. And I haven't totally purged the inventories yet.
So I'm hoping I can fine tune the settings and keep it going a bit more smoothly.
Thank you for being so patient and so thorough in giving me suggestions!

You do not have 300 residents. Tourists and Service Sims are not residents and are therefore not subject to story progression like sims with regular households are, these are true NPCs. Pets can be either. This is why the MC > Demographics way of checking (besides being easier) is more reliable. At 110, that sounds heavier than when Twinbrook starts out but probably fine. The number of tourists is way too high. I would suggest setting Register to disallow tourism and place a 100% chance of them returning home, then let the game run for around a sim day or until that number decreases back to 0. If they are still stuck in your world, then I would have to say something is going wrong there, if not then consider switching tourism back on if you want it but set at a reasonable level like 10 and a reasonable chance to return home like 25 and see if it holds there. But then again given enough time, they may decrement back down to 10 on their own now that you have the setting in place. Your number of Service Sims is fine.

On the age stuck sims, what I usually do is pull up one of those harmless command lists like Family Tree (Focus won't work here because off the screen hibernating Role Sims cannot be focused upon and therefore won't show up), filter to Age, and do, in turn, Child, Teen, YA, Adult. Sort each one by the age column. If any of them are over the upper age limit you have set for that stage and are not occults with more varied lifespans, then they are overdue to age up.

If your Curfew start and end times are the same as each other, that doesn't mean curfew is deactivated. It means that SP won't control that (will ignore your settings) and EA's defaults for the times take over. If you want to deactivate curfews across the board, that should be done under the General Options and set all of the days of the week to deactivated. The "risk" is that you will then have children and teens wandering all over town all hours of the night. But I don't find that really happens with children. With teens, many of them are old enough to suffer the consequences of their own actions like being really tired the next day. I remember being an older teen and having to get exemptions to be allowed out very late at night or insanely early in the morning to be able to get to and from work when early/late shifts were demanded on non-school days and found the whole thing highly insulting. It's not like there was all that much for teens to do very late at night in the town I grew up in anyway.  :)

Well, I am 3 weeks into my Twinbrook game so that may explain the higher number. I didn't check it when I first arrived.
I will see if the number of tourists drop over the next day or two in game and if not, then I'll disallow it and do the 100% chance for returning home as you suggested.
I'll go in and deactivate the curfew as I only have a few children and teens in town anyway. If I find it's a problem I'll go in a set some parameters.
Not in my home town either! One of the teenage boys favorite past times was throwing rocks or bottles at road signs!
And families used to check out the neighborhood dump to watch the bears in a nearby town! :-o

Okay. Now two other issues have popped up!

The 1st one--No longer able to use the throw a party option on the phone. Whichever sims tries to do this gets reset before the party options box even comes up.
Once I tried with the mother holding her toddler and they both got reset.
I tried using reset everything, but it still doesn't work. Even after quitting and reloading the game. :(

The 2nd one--A new issue for today's play.
The relationship panel is stuck on one sim's. Switching to another sims icons lets you view everything for that sim, needs, skills, etc., but the relationship panel is the same one for all eight of them.

I quit and reloaded hours later and it was fixed for a minute and now I keep getting repeated potrait panel errors for the same sim and the relationship panel is his for all eight sims again. He wasn't on the home lot and it hasn't reset him. Just keeps giving me the portrait panel error. I'll try resetting him and see if that helps.
But it's like my game has gone bonkers with new and different issue every day!

I wasn't sure where to ask this question as I didn't see a specific forum for portrait panel errors. And the link goes to a blank page for techinical issues. I figured it just wasn't up yet with the move to this site.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay. I tried resetting the problem sims---it didn't help.
I tried a reset of portrait panel---nothing.
I tried a reset everything and it didn't fix it either.

Still sad.

1 - Try using the MC command to throw the party instead of the phone to see if that gives you better results. Note that this is one of the few MC interactions that must be performed while the game clock is moving (not paused).

2 - Do you have the RelationshipPanel mod in play? On the PortraitPanel errors, we would need to see those (zipped together, uploaded to a file hosting site) to see what the problem might be. I'm afraid we can't generally do anything with "errors were generated" types of situations without seeing the logs.

Just a hunch though, if it's the tooltip feature of PortraitPanel that is causing the problem then this feature can be switched off from within PP's options. It's called "Show Known Info" there. But this could also mean breakage among what should be family relations like uncles/aunts and grandparents.

Well, I found a work around for the issue. The portrait panel error was only affecting one sim, so I moved him out of the house.
Problem solved with doing that and the "throw party" option was back on the phone!

It didn't really hurt my game as I was planning on moving that sim out with his family very soon anyway.
Just had to be a bit more creative in the story and it worked out fine.

I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again with a sim that I can't resolve as easily.
Like the glitch/bug is just lurking behind the scenes to jump out again when I least expect it.

And tonight's game session went smoothly no errors or glitches.
And the Traffic and Register mods are working great.
I hardly ever have over 3 or 4 vehicles removed at the 3 am check. And it's telling me when booth attendants are assigned for each festival.

But I still have 45 tourists. Even though I have it set for 10 max and 100% go home. Is there something else I could do to lower the tourist numbers?
