Game Crashes from Attempted Travel

Post by heythere124 » June 15th, 2017, 5:13 pm

Okay, I've never posted here before, but here goes. I've always gone to Nraas for mods when I reinstall the game after uninstalling it, because sometimes I get bored, then I always start missing it again. And every time I've added Traveler (and many others) to my game, it works perfectly until a couple of months pass by... I can never figure out how to fix this, but to me, travelling is essential to my games, so I really want to figure this out:
What happens is for an unknown reason, after a while my sims can't travel. Well, technically they can, but once the loading for the world I'm trying to travel to is about to be finished, by game crashes. Every time. So I'm stuck in their home world all the time. I've temporarily resolved this issue by just saving my current household to the clipboard and starting a new game, but I hate starting over, losing all the progress, lots, and sims that have been generated. And it seems to keep messing up after I hit the second-third generation in the "new" game. Let me know if this didn't make any sense, I'm pretty bad at explanations, but does anyone know how to solve this issue other than by doing what I keep doing..? Thanks!

Hi there and welcome to NRaas,

Yeah it's really a bummer if you stay on your Home World consistently, knowing your game might crash while trying to Travel. Though usual suspect why the game crashes during world-transition loading, is probably a system RAM issue (memory), the game can only use up to 3.7GB of RAM (provided you have more then 4GB of RAM available).

The most common explanation would be, if your SavedGame file within your Sims 3 userdirectory (Doc\EA\TS3).
1. If your Homeworld.NHD hits values over 200~300MB, it could lead to these type of problem, even the well known Error 12 pop up.
<ul class="quotelist"><li>Solution, clean up your SavedGame file once in a while by getting this tool: <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Kuree%27s+S ... Cleaner</a>, other methods are also mentioned on that page on the bottom</li></ul>2. TavelDB file is the same, but one extra phenomenon it also stores in game Memories-pictures within the file. Having it activated for your whole town, can get it pretty much overbloated within the 4th generation.
<ul class="quotelist"><li>Suggested: Switch off Memories within the In-Game options, while in main menu and before you start a new game.</li></ul>
Unsure what mods you are running, but ErrorTrap (if you don't have it, get it, be sure to get the right version for your game patch-version) does a little clean up of discarded codes the game no longer uses, otherwise it remains stored within your SavedGame files.

If you want us to look if your system is able to run the game properly, provide us, with a some files named ScriptError_<username>_<date>_<time>_<somecode>.xml and DeviceConfig.log located in your Sims 3 user directory (Doc\EA\TS3). Put these files in a container-tool such as WinZip or 7Zip or WinRar and submit it on our site, follow these instructions <a class="wiki_link" href="/How%20To%20Upload#How">How To Upload</a>.
If you don't have ScriptErrors, run the game once with ErrorTrap installed.

Cheers!

Also: I don't think I'll be able to try that last one... When the game crashes, I don't believe it documents the errors. I wish it did (I have ErrorTrap downloaded) :)

No, you don't have to travel, just run the game for 10 minutes in Live mode it will create a Correction Log file.

ScriptErrors, provide us with various info, such as game patch-version and what type of mods you have, perhaps you have an outdated mod installed, you are unaware of and bugs of the Travel sequence.

Hi J4Ks... So I uploaded the ScriptErrors, but I did something the instruction page told people specifically not to do.. This is only because I didn't know if certain ones were uploaded (because there was no check mark that came up when I tried to upload them. (If that makes sense...) But yeah, there are about two uploaded (multiple times... :/) What to I do next?

Now that the upload barrage has stopped (just kidding, it's not that serious), I've deleted all of the uploaded script logs and replaced them with a single zipped together version. :)

Looks like your game could benefit from having Register in play for a start, but there some undefined traits on one sim there and what looks like evidence of a tuning mod related to the Ghost Hunter career that is acting up. Not sure what that would have to do with travel sequence crashes, but let's see what J4Ks says when he returns to this thread.

- The GhostHunter career is acting up, due to having a Sim called Zhan Su who is an Elder having that job. This active career is restricted to ages Young-Adults and Adults, you may want to find another job for this Sim.

- As for my colleague recommendation on Register, the game is complaining that you don't have any Sims available to fulfill an empty NPC Service or Role slot. These tasks are taken from available Homeless Sims pool on EA standard.
Since they are limited, about 20, the Service / Role Manager has to fight for their Sims until none is available.
Register solves this issue by creating these Sims on demand, whenever a slot needs to be filled and will stop these errors.

- The undefined traits issue (2) is related to "Hestia Harris" you may want to check her out.

Your current scripting Mod setup looks fine, you may want to update <a class="wiki_link" href="/Woohooer">Woohooer</a> though current stable version is V129.
Unsure if you're using Tuning Mods, but on basis from these set of Scripterrors they don't seem to be acting up.

Now the system part, can you open your DeviceConfig.log file located in your Documents\Electronics Arts\The Sims 3 directory with Notepad (rightclick the file, open with ......, select Notepad).
Then copy the selection from top until when you see === Options === and paste the selection within a reply in this thread.

And while you're at it, open your Saves folder and open the save-folder the current game you like to play. It may seem gibberish, but bare with it for awhile.
Take note of the file names with extensions *.NHD (you may need to switch your view to "Details" view in the header menu Screen/Monitor/View (however its pronounced in english).
Within that selection you will see your ``<<{Homeworld Name_somecode.NHD>>, look at the file size and post in a reply what it is. Do the same with the "TravelDB" file.
If they are both under 200 ~ 300MB in size, than the issue may lay somewhere else.

Lets temporary stop here till you get back with the input I have requested above.

Hi, thank you igazor and J4Ks!
igazor - yeeeah, sorry about that. :) Glad you could put up with it, lol.
I have a question about one of those instructions. How would I be able to see what undefined trait Hestia has and how would I go about fixing this issue?

My Riverview_0x0859db43.nhd (listing it as what the title is is just in case I'm looking at the wrong one) is 512,377 KB.
The TravelDB file is 1,264,670 KB.
Just for reference I'm working on a 6 GB RAM computer. (I don't know if this is important, but since we're talking memory, I'm listing this just in case) :)
I'm also wondering, is it recommended to delete any of the folders in "Saves" that say "Game save name.sims3.backup" or "Game save name.sims3.bad"? Or should I leave those alone?
Thanks again, both of you!
