Problem with moving towns and interactions.

Post by weis » July 31st, 2021, 10:59 pm

Hello! So yesterday and today I had the same problem, my sim family lived in Salmon Woods, and everything worked correctly, every sim could use every object and perform every interaction, I moved to Saffron Bay using the method that the traveler FAQ says you should use, but after building the house in the lot my sims were living in, I realized that I couldn't click anything apart from other sims as this specific sim in my Household, every other sim worked correctly except this one, I could click the ground for example, but no panel with interactions would show up, I clicked on the bed of this sim and nothing appeared, I even clicked on the sim herself and the lag from clicking a sim happened (it's normal in my game) but no actions showed up.

So, I reversed to a save I had before building the house, and the same thing happened, I then removed a mod I had recently installed, but it still was glitched, I then decided to revert to the save I had living in the old town, and everything worked correctly, I moved the traveler way again, making sure my sim could interact with the world/objects/herself/other sims, and everything worked correctly, until I clicked the ''Change Hometown'' button in the Traveler City Hall menu, and that sim couldn't interact with anything again.

- I already tried resetting her with the resetsim cheat, and with Master Controller, I resetted her with MC again and saved the game, quit, deleted the cache files and started that save again, it still didn't work (this is after Changing Hometown)
- I recently noticed that the sim couldn't interact with anything only after Changing Hometown via the Traveler menu.
- Every other sim in the household works correctly, except this one sim.
- I have Nraas MC (with both Integrations), SP, Traveler, Register, Retuner, Traffic, GoHere, ErrorTrap, and Overwatch.

Anyone know any solutions to this error? Thank you :)

Let's cover the most common causes of these failures first. You vacationed your sims to Saffron Bay, had your sims stay wherever as provided by the Traveler mod, you had them purchase a lot as a vacation home, and then fully move into it all before invoking Change Hometown. Is that all correct, no steps skipped over?

And after the Change Hometown command, you Saved As, quit the game all the way to the desktop, loaded again? (you did say you did this, but am not clear if you tried to do stuff before this important reboot of the game)

Also quite common is the fact that many custom made worlds just do not work with Traveler due to the way they were designed. Salmon Woods I believe should be fine, but am afraid I have no info on Saffron Bay. You may want to try, on copy of this game save so you can discard it after testing, running through the same procedure to move this household to an EA world and see if you get different/better results.

Hi igazor, first, thank you for answering so quickly, and second, yes, I did all the steps you mentioned first, about everything before invoking Change Hometown, and after invoking Change Hometown I saved the game and restarted it, then I found out about the issue, resetted the sim via MC, saved the game, cleared the cache and opened the game again, and it didn't work, before even buying the vacation home though I did change one lot to ownable and also deleted all the things in it, and before continuing to game I did change two lots that the creator said I should change because they had routing issues, is that a possible cause for the problem?

It could also be that the world just simply doesn't work with traveler and that's fine, I think I'll enter the save before moving, then do the process without doing anything between it, save, and then quit the game and reload it, if everything works correctly i'll tell you, and if it doesn't i'll do the process again and then move to another town just to see if its a world problem or not.

Thank you so much for helping though :)

The game is in a very fragile state after Change Hometown in invoked, and really needs to be Saved (As) and Quit immediately. Traveler should even be displaying a warning to that effect once Change Hometown is used. I would be interested to see if doing so immediately helps fix things.

So, I tested it and changed hometowns right away (but I had to make a lot ownable, there wasn't any in the world, and I deleted all things in the lot) saved, quit, and then entered the save again, but it didn't work :(, I'm starting to think its a world problem, I'm gonna try again with another world and see how it goes, thank you as always!

Getting ahead of things now, but if the same thing happens with an EA world then the next step in troubleshooting would be to install Selector, if you don't already have it, and report back with any script logs that you get when you click on things that seem to be unclickable but shouldn't be. That may give us more clues as to where the fault is coming from.

Thank you! I'm trying with Evansdale County (another custom world by the same creator of Salmon Woods and Saffron Bay) If it doesn't work, I'm gonna try with an EA world, if that also doesn't work I'm gonna download Selector, thank you!

EDIT: I forgot to ask, but Selector is compatible with 1.67, right? I only see that it's compatible with 1.69 but I'm assuming that between 1.67 and 1.69 nothing changed with the files that the mod affects, right?

All NRaas mods are compatible with 1.67/69/70, and Selector is no exception. See the green box on the download page. It's only the Core Mods one has to be careful with, but those are ErrorTrap (we have different versions for the different install types) and UntranslatedKey (this one is 1.67 only and is an exception). The others here are all Script Mods and their tuning files.

Most TS3 mods are not Core Mods; there's only three others out there in popular usage besides ours -- AwesomeMod, CmarNYC's XCAS, and Consort's 2x Weight/Fitness.

Shorter version: the game files themselves between the three patch levels are identical, it's only the internal build numbers and how the game starts up that changes between them. Script and Tuning Mods don't care about these things. Patch level compatibility is much more of a thing when looking at mods that were designed for much earlier patch levels but were never updated for 1.66 and beyond.

Thank you for the explanation! Now, back to the topic, I tried moving to Evansdale County, after doing all the steps without anything between them, it didn't work, so, I restarted again to the save before moving, and I moved into Riverview, instead of starting the game back again after quitting while finishing the process, I installed Selector, and the interactions were back, but I don't know if that was Selector fixing them or if the worlds didn't work and Riverview did, so I'm going back to the save in Saffron Bay, to see if Selector gives me something.

Also, you said to report back with Selector Logs, are the logs stored in The Sims 3 folder in Documents, with the Error Trap script logs? Sorry if its explained somewhere in the Selector FAQ but I didn't read it, mostly because I forgot, thank you so much igazor! :)

All script mods show up in the same place, with the same kind of file name.

Script_Error_(computer name)_(date/time stamp)_(some hex codes).xml.

You can't tell which mod is throwing the error until you open it up in a text editor like Notepad and read it. Selector is like an ErrorTrap for clicking/selection issues and is valuable to have regardless.

To share any script logs you are getting at the time these issues happen, you can drag their file icons (with the files not open) onto a response here one at a time and let the forum text editor resolve the text or you can zip them together, upload to a third party file sharing service, and provide a link so we can take a look.
