Sims 3 Travel Through Worlds and Remember Relationships?

Post by iamadrianaxo » July 24th, 2021, 11:53 pm

Hello,

Forgive me if this has been asked before. I did find some information on it, but not exactly the information that I’m aiming for.

So .. last week in my Sim play, I learned that you can copy NHD files, and paste them in another saved game in order for the game to correspond with the updated world that you have already been playing in another saved game, instead of a fresh new world that doesn’t have any of the sims/lots/homes you may have created etc;. I had a Sim I was playing in Twinbrook visit a saved game I had for Bridgeport in order for her to meet new sims and get a taste of the lifestyle she really wants to live, instead, of dry old boring Twinbrook. She met tons of Sims and had a great time.

Here’s where I went wrong. I started experimenting with the files, lol. I thought maybe if I copy Twinbrook’s saved game, which I saved while I was in Bridgeport, into the Bridgeport folder, the sims in Bridgeport that met my sim that is originally from Twinbrook, would remember their relationships in the Bridgeport’s saved game the next time I decided to play the Bridgeport save. Bad move. That did not happen and I messed up the Bridgeport world. It was acting as if everybody that originally resides in Bridgeport by default was on vacation, when originally it is their home world.

I did fix this, thanks to a back up that was automatically created. However, is what I am trying to do completely impossible? Would it had been any different if I had waited for my sim to go back to her home world and then copy the NHD file into the Bridgeport saved game folder? If this is confusing for anyone, I will be glad to follow up and clarify myself.

Thank you!
P.S. I hope people still play Sims 3, lol.

Hi there. Nope, nope we did a survey and no one in the world plays TS3 anymore. Not anywhere. We just congregate here on this challenging to manage website to exchange recipes, knitting patterns, and talk about our grandchildren and how the next generations are rotten to the core and are going to ruin the world (just like our ancestors talked about). The pesky fact that we've had over 4 million downloads of our mods in the past two years then becomes a bit difficult to explain, but there you have it. :)

The problem you generated there is that relationships with foreign sims are actually held in the homeworld and then pending in the TravelDB file, not in the foreign world file. Thus you unintentionally created a mismatch of worlds and cross-world relationships that could never be resolved. It MAY have worked itself out if you waited to return from vacation to do that second nhd file swap, but there really isn't enough information presented to tell for sure. All we can really suggest is try it that way, again with a safe place to revert to if it still doesn't work out. But the nhd swap is never meant to be used if the game save you are moving the file into has already "seen" an instance of the target foreign world as the TravelDB file would then be holding onto all kinds of mismatched relationships and your new best friends and relatives could suddenly be random toddlers, puppies. plumbots, or living room chairs (well, not really chairs but just about anything living).

The nhd transfer thing is a great trick, but it's not foolproof and it's meant to do a one-time introduction of an existing world and its sims to an already ongoing game. It's not really meant to be used repeatedly on the same worlds between saves.

That comes with getting old. I simply forgot I already downloaded the files yesterday. And the day before...
Sorry for that.
Now I have to remember why I downloaded them in the first place. Hmm...

You're forgiven. But depending on how many mods and mod related files you download each time, you would have to forget that you have them and re-download them all every 10 minutes for two years in order to account for 4 million downloads. If you took a reasonable time out to sleep, eat, and do a few other things each day, then that means your peak forget and re-download rate would really be 40 mod files every 5 minutes.

I understand attention spans decrease as some of us age and find it more difficult to concentrate, but this sounds concerning to me and should probably be looked at by a medical professional of some kind, That's not me, I just play one in Riverview (open up wide and say "Moo!"). :)
