The dark world of The Sims

Post by Sara_Darkees » January 28th, 2021, 3:02 pm

I'd like to improve the graphics situation. But rather the problem is not with the graphics, but with the brightness of the image. One day I solved the problem with glowing objects (I think I solved it here, for which I'm grateful), now I'd like to make the virtual world a little brighter. Sometimes in the evenings, the sims' world is so dark... Or it's dark in some rooms, if it's not stuffed with the brightest lamps. Few years ago I saw a mod, I think its author was Brnt Waffles, but now I can't find it. Can I fix it myself? And will this result in a serious load on the cpu?

I use the Blue Skies and Sunshine lighting mod by Burnt Waffles and find it to be brighter than the standard EA lighting. Here's a link:

I use the one with the Island Paradise water and it's gorgeous :). Hope this helps.

SillySimmerGirl, I also love the lighting mods by Burnt Waffles, but I use them only in town with standard lighting, because WHO INVENTED THIS SKY WITH A NASTY PURPLE TINT?! :x Currently, I need something else. If I'm not mistaken, here it is. I found this image on a third-party site, but couldn't find the mod in the original source.

It looks like the author only increased the contrast and brightness, it doesn't look like it improves the detail or anything like that. But I still need advice on how to do this and whether it is an additional stress for the game.

It looks like the mod in THIS post. I have one version downloaded but I haven't tried it out yet because the various BW lighting mods are enough for now. Plus it took me forever to get my graphics settings just the way I like them. I'm intrigued, though!

Sara_Darkees, In case you don't know, SweetFX is a utility that facilitates additional graphics processing on top of what the game already requires, so yes, it will add to the load on your graphics card. If your GPU is already running at or close to its limit, adding SweetFX will probably cause a noticeable performance hit, although how much of a hit will depend on the settings you use, or in this case which preset you download. You might get a better result with a simple lighting mod.

Still, you can always try it and pull the files back out if necessary.

indignantgirl, yeah, that's it. If you suddenly decide to take a chance and try, can you tell me what the results are? Although it is probably strange to ask about this, because we have different characteristics of the PC. But just in case: Do you play on medium settings or on high settings?

puzzlezaddict, this is very bad, but it was good to know that this is an additional stress. In any case, thank you. By the way, I once wanted the city lights to light up a little earlier, but I didn't find where is it. I thought it might make the world brighter, especially in the twilight hours. I like the lighting in the worlds I play in, and I don't want to replace them yet.

As a side note, the lighting in Lucky Palms is, fittingly, very bright, though the weather is quite dumb unless you adjust it with Tempest. For some reason the game thinks that an inland desert ought to have a few hours of rain every other day in summer, and chances of snow begin first day of fall and end the last day of spring. I mean, there's snow in a lot of deserts, but not so much in the Mojave, which this must be, with all the Joshua trees.

I meant just to say the light is bright and also pretty in Lucky Palms, and then I got distracted. If you change your mind about using a lighting ramp from another world, I think burntwaffles also has a repository of those. Either them or somebody in the same surfchain when you do the lighting deep dive. I think Starlight Shores and Isla Vista also have bright lights, but it's been a long time since I did that dive.I never got around to switching the lights out, so I don't know how it works in actuality.

ritaxis, the best lighting is in The Sims Medieval. Also, it is there that there are the most cute character models, but, unfortunately, I have not yet found any skintons or lighting in this style. I'm currently playing in Roaring Heights and I like the color of the sky and water there. All I wanted was a slight improvement in brightness. But in the end, I think I'll be setting up the lamps the old-fashioned way again.

You could use the invisible lights that are in buy debug. You can see them while you are in build buy but they are invisible in live mode.

Mandelyn, for the brightness inside the room, it's enough to adjust the usual lamps from the buy/build mode, just their saturation should be set from 3 to 5. I also use invisible lamps, but this is a very painstaking task. I'd prefer to install a mod that will immediately improve all the lighting. By the way, about invisible lamps. If you know of a modification that makes these lamps movable like wall paintings, let me know, please.
