Mobster keeps losing job after killing sims.

Post by indignantgirl » January 18th, 2021, 11:37 pm

Like, every time he assassinates somebody (I'm using Dexter the Bear), he gets fired. I thought it might be the Job Overhaul mod, but I took it out (and cleared the caches) and it's still happening. As I understand it, the Assassination skill is supposed to work with the Mobster career, but maybe there something else that needs to be done to make this work, besides just building my Assassination skill and getting the Mobster job? Maybe some setting where he won't lose Mobster job performance from killing?

Besides wanting him to actually have the job, I'd like to fix it so he's not always so bummed out. He's a pretty good guy so his moodlets are out-of-control in the red from the horror of it all, the last thing he needs is that extra "fired" moodlet. As it is, the only thing that keeps him afloat is that he's a Daredevil and gets a +100 for seeing Grim Reaper. Poor Christopher Steel.

Yeah, a pop-up says something about how he's been warned before about his behavior and then he gets the Fired moodlet. I used MC to max his job performance (in case it was a performance hit when he was already at 0) and it still happens. I might try again using MC to raise him to a higher job level and maybe try it with another sim.

With more testing last night, once it didn't happen but he killed somebody in the backyard with no witnesses. Maybe The Family doesn't want it happening in a crowded park? Is discretion a thing, maybe? But he also still had the Fired moodlet from before, so I don't know if that had something to do with it.

I thought for sure it was the Job Overhaul mod because I know it takes negative traits into account, so maybe it takes reputation or stuff like murder into account as well. Plus the mod makes it harder to gain performance in general. Could the mod not have cleared all the way even though I cleared all of my caches?

I just thought of something. Before joining the Mobster career, he was getting arrested which slowed down my fun, so I turned "allow arrests" to False. He was STILL getting arrested, even with it set to False, but I thought, eh, that's fair, you know? He's killed like, half the town.

But I found that if he only takes the time to kill 1 or 2 sims, I can send him home before the cop gets there and arrests him. I don't teleport him or anything, I just click "go home" and he can leave (or at least be in his car) by the time the cop gets there. She usually just turns around and leaves too.

However, could this be counting as being arrested since the cop technically does show up every time and WOULD be arresting him if he were still there? Because there's a setting in SP Career that allows a chance for sims to be demoted if they go to jail, so maybe that could be a thing.

Sorry to keep posting, but I didn't want to waste your time about the things I mentioned above.

I changed SP Careers "chance of demotion" for jail time to zero and he was still fired. Also, he's definitely fired as soon as the knife plunges in, there's no delay at all, so I'm not sure it could be caused by the police getting involved anyways.

And I've had Job Overhaul out for several cache-clearings now, so I think it's safe to assume that it's not the mod, either.

I'm unfortunately out of ideas. :(

Hmm, well I did comb the code and I don't immediately see anything that outright fires them. If it's not happening without witnesses then that could be a thing. Afraid I've never played with it so I'm not certain on that. I do see code that will alter job performance if they get busted so it very well may be that. Try being sneaky a few more times and see if that's the key.

The release notes say that a Sim will lose their job unless they are in the criminal career. But, whether this firing depends on there being witnesses is not clear to me.

'Doh, I missed the important bit where you mentioned using the bear and became fixated on the mobster career it's self. Now it makes sense. Yes you will get fired if witnessed (sims in the same room) while using the bear and not in the criminal career.

Wow, thank you for this! I'd installed Dexter a long time ago and never gave him a second glance. When I saw he was recommended for use with the Mobster career, it was like, oh great, I already have that mod, let's rock and roll and burn this mother down.

I'm clearly not Mobster material.
