Building Glitch?

Post by JohnL83 » October 16th, 2020, 11:53 am

I have a strange issue in my Starlight Shores game. There is a mansion called "Rio do Nero" (how clever) on 12 Buckshot Ln that has what appears to be 2 pools in the back. They have it set so that the lot right next to it is like a guest house or pool house, but is really a separate lot and house. Anyway, the second pool is officially on the main lot and the ground seems level to the other pool and mansion. But it doesn't seem to be an actual swimming pool, as I was unable to set any diving boards, water-slide or anything near it. I figured it was likely just a handbuilt-fountain, but I can not place anything on or near the spot not even water jets! So I decided to just delete the thing and place a hot-tub instead, only it wont let me place that properly either! Every time I try to place a hot-tub it puts the whole contraption above ground showing the underpart of the tub. I tried all kinds of things to get it to place there but cannot. I finally just put in a swing-set and slide which placed there just fine. Anyone know what would cause this issue?

BTW: I tried building there both in MC's Build mode and in Edit Town mode.

I just went in to see if there was a fix to this problem because I remember it from playing that lot a long time ago. If you take the fountain out, then put a pool in it's place, then delete the pool, you can then place anything that goes underground on that area. I think the game still sees that there is an object underground when you are trying to build there, so when you try to place the hot tub, the plumbing shows above ground. I honestly don't know why that area messes up, but I just went onto the lot to make sure that fixes it still and it does.

Thank you Veiledstar :)

I will note this though for future use because I got too irritated with that lot for now. But perhaps in future incarnations I will likely want to do something else to that lot. No one lives there right now anyway, I was just doing my usual redecorating. Sometimes I will stop playing my sims and head to Edit Town to mess around. Perhaps a family will move there and their kids can play on the swing-set and slide I put there instead. LOL I was really just there to add a nursery on the top floor because my sims started breeding like crazy in this tiny town. And that lot and the one next to it are empty right now.

I love the mansions in SS. I think it's some of EA's (Sims 3) best work when it comes to all the intricate homes there. At least of towns that I have. I don't own any towns that didn't come with the EP's other than Riverview. I really wanted that one that gives you a pizza oven, (Monterey Bay or whatever?) but because I have a Steam install I could not get that town. I tried others too and I guess I'm a moron because I couldn't get them to work either. I guess there are work-arounds but my patience is thin these days and I don't find most of that stuff easy.

JohnL83 The pizza oven comes with Monte Vista, and you can definitely get it with a Steam install. You do have to buy the world through Origin (it actually comes in a bundle with Hidden Springs), but it gets installed just like Riverview or any other store world. If you'd like to get it at some point, this is the product page:

https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/ ... lds-bundle

You'd buy the bundle and receive three product keys—one for MV, one for HS, and one for the chocolate fountain bonus item—which you'd register on the Sims 3 store site. Then you could download the worlds from your purchase history, or from their product pages.

I bought the worlds bundle almost two years ago, and it worked then and still works now; I installed both worlds to test something a few nights ago. You do need to have registered your game either in Origin or on the Sims 3 Store site, but since you've installed Riverview, you must have already done so.

Not that it's the point, but I would totally buy a Monterey Bay world, that is if it was done right. The aquarium alone would be worth the full asking price. That place is incredible.

Monte Vista (with its pizza oven*) is one of my favorite TS3 Store wolds, I'd place it third just behind Riverview and Dragon Valley. But they are all made well. As many here know I am also running a Steam install and there is no TS3 store content that we can't have just because our install platform is not Origin, we just have to be using the correct registered game account meaning the Steam one when we download this content. We as players and our games are not "less than" the mainstream or whatever in any way, and if you want we can organize a protest at City Hall to demonstrate how we feel about it all. :)

*Okay, the built-in pizzeria for that world is dumb because sims who show up as customers have to bake their own pizzas instead of being waited on. But there are a lot of creative things we can do with it, including having the content in sims' own homes, and the Cupcake mod is one way to make a pizza serving venue more realistic.

I did get my points but ended up using them to buy some extra stuff like upright pianos and more clothing packs. I don't remember exactly why I had so much issue with Monte Cristo (I knew it started with an 'M'...lol) But I tried a few times, a little over a year ago, to get it and it wouldn't work for me. But Riverview I got just fine. Not sure what is up. Maybe someday I will try again. I have Origin too by the way, but again, I don't remember what the problem was, just that I kept trying and it wouldn't work so I gave up then kind of forgot about it all.

Igazor, I don't care much for Starlight Shores, the town, but I really do like many of the homes there. Riverview is my favorite of the ones I have, not so much the homes, but the sheer amount of buildable space is great, including plenty of room to add new lots. I created my largest town there next to Sunset Valley. And of course I love the Victorian homes in Moonlight Falls. The town I grew up in has a large number of Victorian-style homes and we even lived in one for a few years. It was built in 1885 and still had the coal fireplaces (not used obviously) and even dumb-waiters and pocket doors. No, we weren't "well to do", but we rented the drafty home from friends of my parents. The bad part was that it was heated by radiators...that only sorta worked LOL...ugh! ( the Midwest winters made us wish the fireplaces were wood ones!) Anyway, the owners later sold it and it was refurbished to it's old glory. The last time I saw it a few years ago it still looked amazing.

I've seen where a great number of people brag about their love Dragon V. It must be pretty great. I may try to get them again soon, since I'm getting burned out on the others. I just don't want my Origin and Steam accounts to sync up and try to run while the other is running.

How about if you go to the Origin.com website instead of using the Origin app to purchase content codes and points? If you do this on a different computer or device, one that doesn't even have Origin installed, and redeem the codes for content and points at the TS3 Store back on the computer where your game is installed, then nothing bad will happen. Or at least this is how things used to work.

And repeat after me. It's MON-TAY-VIS-TA. Not Monteray Bay, Monte Cristo, Montevideo, Montenegro, Montessori, Monte Carlo, Montezuma, Monty Python, nor Monty Hall. :P
