The Case of the Disappearing Toddler

Post by gcgrad » October 7th, 2020, 6:17 pm

My sim had quads with the Grim Reaper. I aged them up to toddlers while Grim was there. I got a stuck sim notice for Grim and he must have reset because he's no longer on the lot. After this happened I went to potty train the quads but discovered only 3 were in the portrait panel. The 4th quad is still in my sim's relationship panel, but when I try to click on his portrait I get the message "No interactions available". I MC reset everything but he didn't show back up in the household like I'd hoped. I have a feeling that Grim must have been holding him when he was reset and it poofed both of them away. Is there any way to get him back? I tried looking through some of the options in MC's Add Sim but didn't find him listed there. I'm fairly sure that I don't have a save from after the quads were born. All else fails, I could play it as a non-custodial parent abduction, but my sim is pregnant again by Grim.

(blinks several times) Hi there, gcgrad. I've got to say that you haven't asked many questions here on this forum over the past eight years or more, usually you spend much more time answering them. But the ones you do come up with sure are "interesting"! :)

I assume you know that the game is core blocked against Grimmy being able to sire children. This is something many players have wanted since EA blocked it out somewhere in between Patch 1.0.6 and ...some low number like 1.10 back before my time with the game. Is this the real Grim Reaper we are talking about, the homeless NPC Service Sim who visits when a sim dies and does his thing, or some kind of imposter like the Role Sims (who might even be residents) staffing the Door of Life and Death store content objects?

Are you using a mod that allows for Grim Reproduction? There was a player here not long ago who produced one, although I can't say I was able to follow exactly what they were doing with it.

I believe it's the real one. My sim "met" him at Discreet Rendezvous. I'd MC given him the trait "Wished for a large family" (or whatever it is from the genie). All that aside, the toddler just showed back up like 5 real minutes ago after my sim got the mail. Apparently Grim mailed him back along with some Imaginary Friends?!?!

LOL, quite the resourceful fellow isn't he. But that sounds like a totally acceptable and efficient solution to me, postal rates being what they are as opposed to let's say overnight shipping and storks.

I think all of us who have used Discreet Rendezvous have seen Grimmy on the service roster by now with a pathetic attempt at a fake name, but it's never even occurred to me that babies could be made by him that way...

First pregnancy I cheated and pollinated her. 2nd one was from actual TFB on the bed I placed outside after MC Inviting him Over. The option was available after my sim was relaxing on the bed and then called Grim over to cuddle.

Has it really been 8 years!! :-o Ugh...time is such an odd thing. I feel like it's only been a few since we got here to this board. Yet 2020 has already felt like an eternity of nightmares from which I cannot awake that even has surpassed my year of surgeries! Maybe we really are living in a Matrix and they have my character in limbo? :P

gcgrad - I know this doesn't help, but I had an out of town sim run off with one of my toddlers once and it vanished for about one game cycle until overwatch fixed her. I was in shock! I had no idea this could happen and I was trying all sorts of things to get her back and then just waited to see if overwatch would fix it and as I mentioned, it did. Still, it was strange to have a toddler kidnapped in a Sims game, some old out of towner just picked her up and left the park and I was like..."HEY! WTF? Give me back my baby!"

BTW: I'm glad you got the problem resolved. (I missed that the first time and I had to fix my post...hehe)
How cool to have Grim babies! :D

@gcgrad I had a sim that had children with the real grimmy and my game save was a bit buggy afterwards. I have a base game grim reaper that you can download from my dropbox, if you'd like. I'm not sure if the exchange still works and that was where he was originally, which is why he's still in sims3pack form. Sorry about that. I hated that Grim never really flirted or showed much affection to my sim that had kids with him besides the occasional flirt. Here is my grim: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wct4fgektuxqg ... r.zip?dl=0

I have also found that sometimes switching from one household to another can cause overwatch to rescue those lost toddlers since that specific thing in overwatch is usually not affected by the "active lot," by default, although you can change it, the same with missing sims. If you want the alarm to affect your active lot instead of switching households, I think it's in overwatch> Settings> Active lot> set to true

NRaas is about as old as the game it's self, around 11 years old but yes we've only been over here 2 years as of October 1st.

It looks like that setting only affects the Turn Off TV's and Turn Off Stereos functions. The recovery should work against the active lot by default.

Thanks for the clarification. I really thought I'd lost some time and while I didn't think it had been 8 years here, I did imagine it more like 3 or 4, but that may be how long I've been playing Sims. It all blends together anymore....sigh...:|

I believe I signed up to Nraas on the other board like maybe just a few months before you moved here? I know it wasn't a year before the move, but definitely more than just one or two months.
