Education Major not working for me

Post by FreakyRufus » September 27th, 2020, 3:27 pm

First, I have a ton of mods in my game. When I send a sim to University with the Education major, things look normal until it is time for their first class. Shortly before the start of their first class of the semester, the action to go to class gets pushed as normal. If they are already doing something, it queues up. Looking at the Education tab, they have the class performance meter.

When the go to class action gets to the front of the queue, it immediately disappears. Now, when I go to the education tab, the performance meter is gone. The only thing it shows are the list of things that will improve grades. If I click on the button on the education tab to send them to class, I get a notification that it is not time for class yet. If the current time of day is during one of the classes that is on the sim's curriculum schedule, then they will have a message that they are skipping class. If I go to the building where their class is and click on it, there is no option to attend class; it only has the normal options that show up on the building when class isn't in schedule.

I have Debug Enable installed, but haven't turned on any special debug features, just running with the default settings. I get no errors logged anywhere around the times that I attempt to send them to class.

Now, I set up a brand new EA/The Sims 3 directory, with no CC and only NRaas mods, plus a nointro mod. When I do that, the Education major works, and the sim is able to attend classes.

1 - DebugEnabler doesn't actually do anything by its mere presence other than expose specific EA-made commands that were left in the game to a user interface. Are Overwatch and ErrorTrap in play?

2 - I think you have pretty much already proved that either a mod from another source or your original instance of Uni World (was this a new game you were testing with the other mods removed?) is what is interfering with the class attendance. If it's another mod, then of course the task then becomes finding out which one makes the issue return.

I do have Overwatch and ErrorTrap both. Both are at the default settings.

I ran into the problem in my current game, and created a new save using my same set of mods, and had the exact same issues there, too.

I was hoping there was some setting I could turn on that would be able to help find where the conflict was. It takes so long to go from starting a new game, to traveling to Uni, to getting through the first Sunday before the first class time rolls around. Doing that while adding and removing mods seems like it would take days, rather than hours. :(

Wouldn't a good save point from which to begin testing adding the mods back in be very early Monday morning before the first round of classes begin rather than replaying the trip from the homeworld each time?

Education Major not working for me

This is a known issue with the Education major. I've had the same happening to my sims, and found numerous other reports when I searched for it. As far as I know there is no way to get them to class if this happens. Luckily it doesn't happen for every class they have scheduled. Also, they can keep their performance up by studying. The Education major doesn't have it's own text books, but reading text books from other majors or general skill books works, as does studying on the computer. I've even had one student get his performance up by leveling his pool skill. Every student I've had majoring in Education graduated without serious problems.

I've seen the reports too but have not been able to reproduce them. It sounds like there's a mod conflict floating around. Hopefully the OP let's us know if they figure it out.

I'm not so sure it's necessarily a mod conflict. I've reproduced the class dropping in a fresh user directory with just Careers and Traveler installed.

I don't think the issue is always a mod conflict. Like Gamefreak_130, I also had the issue with an otherwise fresh setup.

However, I've found that the JobsBooter in the Career module is seemingly missing a foreach loop that adds task and jobstatic data. Adding the one present in ActiveCareer's GenerateOccupationToJobStaticDataMap method to the JobsBooter rectifies the class dropping issue present in the Education and other custom degrees. I've not done super extensive testing, but I haven't run into any issues yet.

Did this ever get resolved? I just had the experience that choosing the Education career for one of the sims who got sent to university made the game just unceremoniously quit upon loading the university world. I found a different version of the university world (from a much older save of the same game) that actually loaded, but had lots of quirks (some sims got sent home immediately, which had to be solved by a reset, only two roommates instead of the expected four), but given the sim couldn't go to class (same situation as described in the OP), I abandoned that attempt.

The only mod I can think of that may interfere with this is the one that adds additional functional doors to the classroom buildings. Did anyone ever look into this? My savegame loads that slowly that it's a pain to test with it.

For some reason, I thought I had my settings configured to auto-subscribe when I create posts, but I never get notifications of them.

I never did figure this out, but ended up just having my sims get their grades up by studying, using herbs, skilling, and asking blog subscribers for help. It is actually possible to get their grades up faster that way than by going to class, too. I usually use a ton of "cheaty" stuff anyway, and adding that in to studying helps a lot. E.g., using the incense from China to boost skill gains, while listening to a skill tabcast on their tablet, while studying the relevant skill or from the textbook, after having eaten herbs to boost school performance. For the Phys Ed major, they even gain class performance by making them jog everywhere across campus while listening to the Athletic tabcast.

This doesn't always happen to me, and I do not recall if it only happens with the Education major.
