OMG I have lost everything

Post by Bowlady1955 » January 14th, 2019, 3:13 pm

I don't know how it happened, but I totally lost my Sims3 and all the expansions on my "new" computer that I just got back on Friday as well as every mod and tweaks that I have gotten from links that have asked about since I found you guys in October.

I had no backup since this is a new computer. I swear I'm going to be bald since I am now in the process of pulling out all my hair. I even lost the items I just finished buying from the Sims store over the last 3 days.

I'm going to go cry now. It's going to take me days to try to get everything back the way I had it

Hope everyone else's day goes better then mine has ended up being.

Cheers, (I need a drink)

First, DON'T PANIC!, you may not have lost everything. The stuff you bought from the EA store will be in your download history in your account on EA. So you can just download all that stuff again. You can reinstall the game IF it really is lost. What happened? What makes you think you've lost everything? I wouldn't do anything at them moment until someone with much more knowledge than me comes along with suggestions. Until then, go have a cuppa tea, it always helps me to stay calm :)

Thanks for the cheers, yes I did redownload all of the stuff I bought from the store just a few minutes ago. And I'm pretty sure everything was lost. I can't be positive because I'm not computer literate, but there are NO File Flolder's for Origin or Sims 3. I have already reinstalled Origin but I had no Sims games listed in my game menu. I have already restarted downloading my Sims 3 games since I have always purchased the disc rather then just download them from the store (I like having hard copies for just the issue I am now having).

I really don't mind so much having to reinstall everything, I'm just not sure if I can find all the questions I have been asking over the last 3 months concerning all the mods (sigh*). For example: like the link that puts the mod folder and test into my sims folder. Once I go back through all my posts, I hoping to find everything....it's just the consumption of time that it is going to take me to do all this.

My other big thing is I lost all of my custom content (my houses and venues that took me months to do).

Oh well, I know have more then enough to do to keep me busy for the next week at least

Cheers,
Bowlady

Just a thought, but did you check your recycle bin? I've often accidentally deleted some of my sims 3 folders.

littlelambsy.....I just found everything. Apparently for some reason my computer is putting everything on my computer into the new Microsoft Cloud......ugh.....do you by chance know how I can keep it from doing that? I don't want my stuff on the cloud...it's suppose to be on my hard drive.

I don't know if the company I bought my computer from did that as a back up when they were repairing my computer or not and not sure how to fix it :(

Fantastic!!! glad you found it all. I don't know how to stop it from going to the cloud but you could call the company and ask them if they did this and how to fix it. It's actually a job it did go to the cloud as a backup. :) Someone else here may know more. What patch are you on? and are you on Windows 10?

Well I just logged back into Sims 3....after recovering it but, there are no mods, so those are going to have to be reinstalled, but at least I still have my CC of my houses and venues.

I'm on the current mod patches 1.67/1.69? I just joined in October and yes I have Windows 10, my computer is brand new...I only had it a week when the motherboard went out due to a defect. So everything is as current as it can be in the last month.

Bowlady1955, glad you were able to recover your files.

As for preventing OneDrive from stealing your files, this article sounds like it described your situation perfectly and how to fix it. It is from late 2015 though, so it's possible some settings have moved around since then.

Well you are right Tropical Insomniac, the cloud is the default setting, and the link you gave is spot on, that is almost identical to what has happened to me.

Glad I could help. Hopefully this will be the end of your computer problems for a long time and you can get back to having Sims-specific problems instead. :-)
