Hi bandit5. Have you recently manually changed (using NVIDIA Inspector, NVIDIA Control Panel, or similar program) your graphic settings by chance? I ask because I too was free of error 12 for years. About a week ago, I manually changed my graphic settings to High Quality textures and adjusted the Anisotropic filtering settings. The visual results in the game were stunning. However, right after making the changes I began getting the dreaded error 12. After a few days of fighting it and trying to find a work around, I finally gave in and changed my settings back. No more error 12.
The save I'm playing is old and large - 522 mb.
I remember someone posting here that they were looking into creating a 64 bit "wrapper" for Sims 3. I wish they had succeeded. It's a shame to have all this ram (I have 32 gb) and the game simply can't use it.

Having 16GB of RAM is not important to Sims 3. It's a 32 bit application and can only address 4GB before showing you the door. If you recently adjusted the graphic settings, that could be your cause. If you recently added new mods, they could be your cause. An increase in population could also be the cause. Sometimes a neighborhood just explodes after playing it so long. Do you have ErrorTrap and Overwatch to clean up unnecessary internal data?
