Rental Lots issues

Post by rachel_hodges91 » April 5th, 2017, 6:14 am

Hi All

I have Story Progression installed and the money module and I recently realised there is an option to purchase a rental lot, so I thought I would give it a go. The Landgraabs have bought up a good selection of properties in town, two of them have been filled by Story Progression and I have moved in a family into a third property that the Landgraabs own, but I can't see that any rent is being paid. When I play the Landgraabs no money comes in, when I play the family living in one of their properties no money goes out.

The Landgraabs definitely own the properties (its in the 'manage real estate' list as owned property and they can build and buy on the lot) and it seems to have worked properly in the sense that my 'tenant' family only had to pay the cost of the furnishings when they moved in (well, they paid the whole cost but had the unfurnished cost refunded) and yet, no rent payments?

Twallan's FAQs just say that rent is paid automatically but doesn't say when and I've played both families through a whole sim week each waiting for the rent to come in or go about but it didn't. Am I missing something? Has anybody else used the rental lot function in this way and can offer me any advice?

I have also checked the accounting options on both families and it doesn't appear to be tracking any rent.

TIA

P.S. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place! I can never seem to figure out where it should go!

Hi there again. I gave you think link to Chatterbox on your MTS thread, but you posted here on the SP board. That's perfectly fine, it is SP we are talking about, but the mod specific boards are meant for bug reports, script error logs, feature requests, and other conversations with a mod developer. Far fewer members will see this here.

One question I forgot to ask prior, how long are you waiting before concluding that rent is not being exchanged? Our developer could tell us when this is supposed to happen more precisely when he sees this, but I do recall that investment property returns on commercial lots are generally available for collection on Tuesdays so maybe something like this applies for residentials. Is it possible that an entire sim week or two has not gone by yet?

Also, in answer to something else mentioned back on the MTS thread, no it is not generally possible to freeze an inactive sim's finances while they are not being played. You can stop them from buying/selling some things at random with SP settings, but they will still get paid if they have a rabbit hole and a few other kinds of jobs, they will be subject to daily fees and taxes like other sims, they have to eat (not necessarily always for free from their fridge), they might want to go to the movies, buy a drink, etc. I tend to let my sims that I play in rotation have enough freedom to carry on their lives like this, they just don't get to progress in any really significant ways until I return to them. The settings I use for Rotational Play are on this page, as are Sarah's. Other players often use some variation on either of the two sets of options when playing this way.

Sorry, discussion boards always confuse me, I never know where to put things!

I played through a whole sim week with the landlord and another whole week with the tenant so some rent should have been paid somewhere!

I set the income tax to 100% as I found if I didn't play a family for a while I would come back and they would be millionaires despite only being a dishwasher 😂 it seems to be working quite well for me so far but I will have to make sure I don't leave them so long that they spend all their money and end up in debt!

My experience with SP Money's Income Tax is that the % levels aren't really percentages. If I set it to somewhere around 40, my sims end up losing money instead of netting a gain each time they work. Haven't been brave enough to try 100 on any of them because of this, but different combinations of property and income tax for different net worth defined castes tend to keep things relatively even while I am off playing elsewhere. Households where no one has a rabbithole job of any kind are exempt from taxes when inactive or else yes, they will lose all of their cash and end up in debt left to their own devices.

I wonder what else might be different between our games that would cause SP Money to behave so differently between them.

That's odd. I haven't been using the 100% income tax for very long so I might end up with some unwanted results as time goes on, but it seems to work ok so far. They do usually have slightly less money which I assumed was due to meals out, movies etc. but it wasn't significant.

I'll have to keep a closer eye on my inactive families to try and figure out exactly what's happening with their cash while I'm not looking.
