I am new to using story progression. I have tried it a few times before but its very busy compared to the mods I use, so I have had trouble getting on with it.
I Changed a few setting on start of game to change things I knew about from previous games, moving set to false and change dream jobs I also disabled a lot of ambitions jobs as they is no access to items needed. I think this is where my problem came from, I have noticed a few of the young adult Sims in my town are retired, I have tried using Mastercontroller and Register to give them jobs but they are still flagged as retired.
I can not find away to unflag them I have read the instructions as such on the story progression page, but either I'm not understanding or its not working story progression does not to seem to push these Sims at all, as they are single and I never get pop ups about them.
StoryProgression Retired.
I have to be away for a bit but have a few links to share that might help you out until someone else stops by to provide you more detail. See if some of the suggestions within the following links can get you started on the right track:

Playing In standard EA world, Bridgeport, I had gave these Sims consignment jobs, which is where I think the problem lies. I have removed there roles and tried everything I can think of but still after a couple of weeks story progression has done nothing with them so gave them a differant job but there there still flagged as retired. They are Bridgeport townies, have homes.

Yeah that's where the problem does come in Register will automatically use the homeless sims for those types of positions giving residents a Role job makes it hard to get the retired status removed
With Register as long as Allow Resident Assignment is set to False residents it should never get assigned to Role jobs
With Register as long as Allow Resident Assignment is set to False residents it should never get assigned to Role jobs
Try this make sure the game is paused then use Register to remove the Role job then use Master Controller to give them a Rabbithole job keep the game paused do a Save As exit the game delete

compositorCache.package
simCompositorCache.package
scriptCache.package
In your Documents>EA>The Sims 3 folder then reload the game and let the game run for a little bit if that doesn't help then I'm not sure what to do next as I've never had to go beyond that to get a Retired status removed
