I didn't see this posted anywhere, so I thought I would give everyone a heads up just in case. A new update for Sims 3 is being pushed through Origin ... something I'm sure a lot of players will not want. Here's a link: http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discuss ... the-sims-3
My guess is that the real goal of this update is to force users who now bypass the launcher to go through Origin.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Oh boy. Yes probably so. But this doesn't appear to be a good idea overall. The game has enough problems with it's data and corruption without users turning expansion code on and off and not understanding that existing saves won't be a big fan of such.

From the EA support document referenced in that thread, "If in the Sims 3 Expansion and Stuff Pack Manager you deselect packs that you have been playing with and load a game save that uses those packs, the game will replace the unloaded content with default items or remove them altogether."
Yeah, that's great for furniture and clothes. What are they going to replace Uni World and Oasis Landing with if someone loads up a saved game that has seen those EPs after deselecting them, expecially if they had been playing in those worlds? There are EP-specific staircases and bridges on world maps that have no viable substitutes. I also shudder to think what might happen to a sim is working in an EP-specific career or working with such a skill object when the player last saved. Does anyone at EA even know how this game works?
Even more interesting, the Launcher screenshot shows a version number of 1.69. If this update also patches the base game to that level, even to just keep the version numbers in synch, mods will break. At least core mods such as ErrorTrap and UntranslatedKey will, anyway.
The official word from Igazor's Travel Agency: Heck no, but let's see what players actually end up experiencing after a few days.
