Self-employed & Degrees
Self-employed & Degrees
I noticed that the Careers Academics module assigns the EA self-employed careers to the UL majors. Does this mean there is some benefit to sims in self-employed careers who get (or have) the associated major? With an "A" grade in the right degree do they start at level 4 like rabbit hole jobs? Any other benefits?

Was curious, so I just tried this in a test game. My sim already had an IT career with an A avg. Gave him the Inventor skill, level 6 (just randomly), had him quit his job, upload his resume, and apply at City Hall to become a registered inventor as that is the only associated self-employed profession for that degree. He was placed at profession Level 5 and the council stuffed hundreds of simoleons into his pocket as an initial stipend.
Tried it all again with a C avg and was placed at Profession Level 3, no stipend.
Now if only he actually had an inventor's bench and would know what to do with one...

@igazor - That's interesting. I was worried that if a sim started higher in a self-employed career then they might miss out of any promotion cash bonuses, but it sounds like your sim might have received them anyways. I'll try something similar with my current household if I can. Those sims all have 4 or 5 degrees so I might not be able to do a nice comparison of with a degree and without a degree.

That's why I used a test game. Suppose you could DE their degrees and grades in and out if you wanted more detailed results for each degree. I was satisfied enough to see that the degree actually did something, for that one profession anyway, and that there was a noticeable difference between A and C.
