Don't get option to Change Hometown

Post by Tommee1 » September 3rd, 2017, 4:24 pm

Hello, I have traveled a sim to another world using the Traveler way. I did not start with a base camp ( forgot to set that up first ) I moved my sim into an empty lot that he rented for 0 simoleans. Then I put in a ownable house and had had him move to that house. Then I went back and added a base camp and still I am not getting the Change Hometown option under traveler. Can anyone help me?

Hi Tommee1. When you put him in an ownable house did you use purchase a vacation home. I think you are missing some steps. Have you seen the <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Traveler+FA ... >Switching Home Towns Page</a>? Try following the instructions detailed and see if that works better for you.

Hi, I just went back and checked after I left the game running and as far as I can tell he is a resident in this new world. When selecting Real estate and Travel services on the phone, I get the options to Move, Travel, Check real estate, roommate services, and purchase rental lot. I never selected change hometown since I never saw it available under Traveler. This is the second time I have tried moving sims and the first time it was just as nerve racking.

Brappl I read the Traveler FAQ after I had already traveled my sim. I will try to remember to read it before next time and hopefully things will go smoother.

Hello again. You mention your sim is now a resident but probably does not have the benefits resulting from Switching Home Towns.
Are relationships from the old town showing in the Relationship Panel? Can your sim travel back to his/her old home town?
The Switching HomeTown function can be a bit nerve racking but once you get the hang of it you'll love it.

Just to add, if I may, not sure what's going wrong here either but the Base Camp step is not necessary. The only worlds in which I ever have those are the WA worlds.

One possibility, though probably not it, in the very beginning are you vacationing your sim in this new (to them) world or are you using the Move to New World function? They're both supposed to work with Traveler, but the Move to New World method does have a high rate of failure, reportedly. This is why the FAQ page concentrates on the vacation method instead. We are meant to stay in some random lot that the mod provides upon arrival, purchase a Player Ownable vacation home, then move into it, and not use Treat as Vacation > False permanently as that goofs things up if it's left set that way. This sequence should trigger the Change Hometown option on Traveler.

Igazor I used the Move to new World function. I will have to go back to the Real Estate and Travel menu and look for how to vacation. Brappl I think my sim is a real resident, he still has his relationships with all the people in his old world. I doubt I am going to travel the sim back, but as soon as I get this new world set up with more houses I plan on traveling back to the old homeworld simless. Unfortunately for me my game/computer run slow so moving between worlds is a serious commitment. LOL Thanks for your help.

It sounds like the Move to New World function worked for you that time, pending success on traveling back home. This function was introduced by EA late in the game's development as part of IP and its patch. The EA way, it's just a shortcut for moving your sims through the household bin and starting over in their new world, with the original world and its sims removed from gameplay and relationships/history entirely. Traveler does attempt to intercept that and move them the NRaas way thus keeping both worlds and their sims in play but, as said, it does have a higher than should be failure rate so most of us don't use it. It's certainly simpler when it works right though, all those other steps about vacation homes and Change Hometown would in that case not be necessary since the destination world would not in that case be used as a vacation world to begin with.

This is all documented on the Switching Homeworlds section of the mod's FAQ page that brappl linked to above.

Ok, I just went back in game and I think that I have been using the Travel button the every time not Move to new town. I always go through the screen that looks like the travel to a WA world, but it has my other installed worlds also. I don't get a chance to play often so I forget what I did sometimes, but pretty sure that I used the Traveler method. And using that method I never actually had the chance to select Change Hometown ( it never showed up) but somehow my sim became a resident.....?. Now, I don't know if this is only for me or something that might need to be added to the FAQ but when I travel back to the original homeworld without my sim, I deselect him and then the accept button stays greyed out, unable to accept until I change the days traveling slider, then I can accept and travel back.

The household of the actively being played sim has to have enough in funds to afford the trip back even though they won't be charged anything if all traveling sims are removed from the right side of the screen. Might it be that this household just didn't have enough cash for a longer trip, even though they weren't really going anywhere?

No, this sim is rich and the days traveling was set at 1 day. I had to move the slider to get the accept button functional, I moved it right back to 1 day travel. And was able to travel back......actually still loading yikes! I need a newer computer or something.
