Hi all - back after 4 years - I've been doing world adventures again and was successfully saving my games under different names then last night returned to BP and none of the stuff collected in China was in my sim's inventory - so today installed traveller and tried again with success - I just remember something about naming game wisdom when using traveller anyone know how I should proceed?

I don't know if I've heard of a specific naming scheme to use, but I personally name my saves [world initials]_[name of household or sim]_[number]. For example TB_DIOR_27, my 27th save in Twinbrook with Dior.
When travelling, it can help to note which saves were the ones prompted by Traveler (or done manually before making the trip). I usually replace the number in that case, such as TB_DIOR_travel and FRANCE_DIOR_travel for the return trip, so that you can easily get back to a safe point before any travel actions.

At the end of the day, use whatever is most intuitive for you :)

As another example, I usually play overstuffed households which I micromanage, so I like to 'save as' each day right after the Overwatch cleanup. I only play in Sunset Valley, so I don't need to include the world in the save (except when traveling). I use [household name]-[simweek[.[simday]-[short description]. As an example: Alvi-5.6-prom would be the Alvi household, week five day 6 (Thursday), and there is a prom that day.

Thanks both for yout responses, you are very thorough in your saving regimes - my current game is simply -MCM for the home town (BP) then when I travel to say France I save it as MCMF, this simple system worked fine for 2 trips to each and has worked in the past, so I don't know what happened a few nights ago - installing traveller has produced 2 glitches - there is no thumbnail for MCM anymore and My Sim stops the nectar making after he has pressed the fruit

do you mean you overwrite the same save except when adding an F for France and so on?
If yes, nraas Saver can automatically prompt you to save and adds a number at the end like -1, -2 etc.
Saving only one time for a whole sim day like Cassie is for me very less. Then you need to repeat a whole sim day progress, builds or CAS activities, if something goes wrong or a running out of memory crash happens, I would not like this happening.

Overwritten same name saves can get corrupted and then you loose a lot.

As CardinalSims sais, saving with a new name (like adding numbers) before travelling and after again can be a live saver too.

The exact names don't have any effect but for how they help you, personally, keep track of where a given save was at.
There are a lot of EA issues with the travelling system that Traveler fixes, so it isn't necessarily the saves that were the issue- but doing a Save As and giving a new name, regardless of what it is, is always better so that you do not risk save damage from overwriting an existing one.

Neither of the new glitches sound related to Traveler. Do you have NRaas Overwatch and ErrorTrap in play as well? Those will automatically handle any cleanup that might be required. You can also clear your cache and thumbnails so that the game will generate new ones.

.
Ah, yes, I forgot to mention that I do use Saver so after the initial 'save as' after the Overwatch cleanup I get the same name, but with .1, .2 etc. attached. So I have up to 5 saves for each day. Of course when Traveller prompts you to 'save as' you should also do that, then I just change the description part of the file name.

That does mean you need to throw out redundant saves fairly often, because your Saves folder will fill up pretty quickly, and in my experience after 200 or so saves new ones no longer show up in the Main Menu.

well thanks all a lesson well learned - my sim just spent 7 days back in France so I did the 3rd stage of Landgraab and Tuathas Garden returned home and all was lost because my desktop crashed after the save - I could repeat it all from a save I had before going back to France but think I'll start a new game and make sure I have saver and traveller installed first

I've been playing this on and off for 13 years now on snow leopard on a 2010 imac - I have High Sierra on a partition so will reinstall the games on that if allowed by the dreaded Origin

The odd thing is on my very simple naming system I did complete WA on 3 occasions with a full set of relics
