The Situation Abroad

Post by Sara_Darkees » July 7th, 2023, 8:38 am

More recently, with the help of the DE mod, I discovered that I can enter the number of days on the trip, and now my supposedly vacation will last 999 days. Well, for now. Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?! Anyway, I'm now in France, there I have an absolutely empty lot, and I'm also absolutely poor. And still I'm full of enthusiasm to live there! After all, there are so many treasures in these tombs that even hypothetical children and grandchildren will have enough for the rest of their lives, and no one will have to work. However, given that I'm doing something that the game doesn't provide, I'd like to know some nuances.

1. I have to pay the bills, right? If not, then I can enter a charge of a certain amount with Traveler. But what happens if my account is less than this amount? I won't be deported from the country, right?

2. How are things there with growing up, death and childbirth? Of course, I'm used to playing an endless long game, but sometimes I want some changes. Basically I rely on fully allowed social interactions, but maybe in this case I just have to enable SP?

3. If SP can force characters to develop skills, as well as collect items in inventory, then I suppose they will be able to earn income from this? That's the surprise, but all sims abroad have exactly zero simoleons in their pockets. I'm a little worried about what this mod will do to these poor devils.

4. I've heard that it's better not to get involved with mini-sims. Or should I call them incompletely exported foreigners? They're not in town right now, but if I allow free entry, is there anything I should be wary of?

5. I noticed that my active ghost during the journey cannot go to the world of the dead. But what happens when an ordinary sim just dies? Where will his grave be located?

And finally, if someone has warnings and recommendations that I didn't even think about, anyway, let me know. Seriously, if it's just about entertainment, share your experience.

I'm not sure about all of this, but I can help with a couple questions at least.

1. Your sims will only receive bills if they purchase a vacation home and live there. They need to be at visa level 3, and you can change a sim's visa level with DebugEnabler. Or you can change the visa requirement within Retuner, something like this:

Sims3.Gameplay.RealEstate > RealEstateManger > kVisaLevelRequiredToPurchaseVacationHome

2. All aging is paused while sims are on vacation. That goes for pregnancies too, which won't progress at all after conception. I suppose you could use MC to create an instant baby and keep aging it up manually. I've aged up a foreign sim before, and it worked okay.

3. I think so; there's no reason I can think of SP wouldn't do this in a foreign world.

4. If you want to "get involved" with a sim that's foreign to this world, it would be better to move the sim into an empty house in the world first, for example with MC Add Sim. Regular social interactions are fine; this is more about moving in, marriage and/or having kids.

5. The grave should work like it does in a homeworld. But sims won't die of old age either, so you'd need to manually manage the process.

It might be better to have your sims live in France, if that's what you want, rather than be on permanent vacation. It's very limiting to live in a WA world in that most of the buildings aren't present, but you could place them as needed, and aging would progress normally provided you changed the sims' hometown properly.

Perfect. I have both a visa and a country cottage... Or rather, it will be when I save up money.

>2. All aging is paused while sims are on vacation. That goes for pregnancies too, which won't progress at all after conception. I suppose you could use MC to create an instant baby and keep aging it up manually. I've aged up a foreign sim before, and it worked okay.

It's a bit of a shame, but if it still works for manual edits, then that's fine. But what about the inhabitants of this world?

>4. If you want to "get involved" with a sim that's foreign to this world

Not me, I'm afraid that some uncontrolled sim will start a relationship. And after that, my whole game will be ruined.

>5. The grave should work like it does in a homeworld.

Interestingly, so far the grave of my active ghost is not working, as I said above. But hopefully that's the only difference.

>It might be better to have your sims live in France, if that's what you want, rather than be on permanent vacation

And how do you imagine it? I saw that there is a copy of this world, for the base game, but... Firstly, there will be a headache with localization, secondly, I like quests that are specific to travel worlds. Or do you know any other way to settle there?

Oh, wait... I can change my place of residence to a vacation town if I stay on my purchased plot, not at the base camp. It's a risky idea, but it's worth a try. It's still about France, just in case. By the way, a very important question... About mini-sims, and I hope Igazor won't beat me. So...I deleted the town, which I no longer need, but these mini-sims remained from it. Nothing will happen if I delete them, right? And what happens if I delete them all?

I don't know enough about active ghosts to say how they're supposed to work normally, let alone in a vacation world. It's possible that the "return to netherworld" option, if that's what you're looking for, is blocked while sims are on vacation just as aging is blocked. I do remember a time when I resurrected (and subsequently killed off) a ghost in Egypt, for reasons, and I had no trouble with any part of the process.

The locals could be aged up manually while on vacation, I did this too, but it's a moot point if you're changing your sims' homeworld to France.

The mini sims can't really get into relationships in the same way as full sims can. The problem lies not in allowing them to do whatever they want autonomously, or letting locals interact with them, but in trying to force these sims to do something that makes them full sims when the data for their full selves doesn't exist in that world. So for example if you try to have your sim marry a mini sim, things will go badly. They won't get married on their own.

When you say you deleted the town, do you mean you deleted your sims' original hometown? In that case, the mini sims should eventually go home and disappear into nothing, with ErrorTrap cleaning up their data. Probably. Or you can set the chance of tourists going home (in Traveler) to 100% and watch them disappear sooner.

I guess it won't happen in one step, right? However, I was obviously in a hurry to move. As soon as I got "legal" citizenship in France, all the normal adventure ads were blown away like the wind. Now only quests are available there that some shy idiots can't go on a date. I wonder why? But, anyway, until I complete all the quests there, I think the best way to live there is to indicate a huge value for the duration of rest through the DE settings. Eh, there are always some problems with these moves from town to town.
