Shop for Clothes Pedestal and CAW?

Post by LimeyYoshi » June 16th, 2022, 7:11 pm

Hello everyone,

I am currently making a Sims 3 world and one of its ~90 lots is a combined boutique/salon/tattoo studio that is tagged as a Salon.
As I am not a fan of the outfits and hairs that ITF came with, I added the modded pedestals in so I could pick my own outfits and make the mannequins more... worldly-looking. I've got ten of these pedestals across two floors - one for each gender and age group combination, with prices already set. A bit of Store and CC content is equipped on the mannequins, too. It's a beautiful building and I really want to add it into the world. However, when I proceed to do that in EIG, the game softlocks on the "Processing" bit and I have to force quit the game.

Are there any known issues regarding this mod and CAW/EIG? Or could it maybe have to do with the fact I used some CC (not a crazy amount, just one scarf and two CC hairstyles) on the pedestals, does the game not like that, does it fail to try and load the custom mannequin data in?

As a note of possible interest, I have two different Sims 3 folders for my actual game and for CAW, as my actual game is too bloated with Store content to run EIG at all (crashes on startup because of the 4GB RAM limit) and I do not have the same content across both folders; however, I do make sure to include every bit of Store content and CC that I use in both folders.

Does anyone have a clue what is going on? Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't be trying to run script mods in CAW/EIG except those specially written to deal with that mode like MC/Porter. The full core isn't running there and it's entirely possible it is calling something that isn't initialized causing the lock. I'd try the lot without the pedestals just to confirm but that's likely what is happening.

Save the lot to your library and add it to the world when you are ready to test. I know EIG does not like busy builds with cc from a previous attempt in CAW. I also never used mods in my CAW save. Once I saved a world to test would I add nraas mods. I did it in a separate folder as well.

Oh thanks for that advice, I actually had no issues with any mods, including core and script mods, up to now, so I always left them running in my CAW TS3 folder, too. This must be the first time I actually ran into problems that were not explainable by the game running out of RAM.

That is only a last resort for me really, as I am really looking to fully equip this world and eventually include Sims in it, too, before it is finalised.

After your comments, I have first tried editing all of the modded pedestals out and replaced them with the standard pedestals, then proceeding to set each pedestal to their respective gender and age so everyone could buy. I also removed all script and core mods, including the pedestal, except for the NRaas stuff.
I observed that the resulting Sims3Pack was about 60% smaller just from this one change. However, it still wouldn't import into EIG, showing the exact same symptoms (I always monitor EIG with the Task Manager; upon trying to place the lot down, it starts loading, CPU and disk usage go up and RAM usage slowly rises, then the CPU usage suddenly drops to about 1-2% and disk usage to zero, then the RAM and CPU usage ramp up to normal again and the game acts as if it were trying to render the lot to rotate it, but it doesn't actually, just ends up softlocking...)
I then had the thought that it could have to do with the fact I saved it in my modded game, so I tried adding it to an empty lot in Bridgeport as a test, in order to be able to save it again in the unmodded game, and not even that would work; the game just softlocks, just like in EIG.
Even a version without any pedestals at all wouldn't import. I even tried compressing the Sims3Pack, even though it did nothing to reduce the size. I also noticed on the go that the lot takes a really long time to be placed down in my full game before I am able to rotate it and stuff.

Could there be some leftover data on the lot that is preventing it from loading now? Is this data deletable with s3pe? Is my lot borked altogether, do I have to rebuild? :S

Hello folks,

I thought I should give you an update since my situation has changed since I initially posted about it.

And now that I think about it, it's actually quite stupid to think about... but let me start from the beginning.

I left the lot out of the test builds I played with because I couldn't figure out what the problem was.
However, yesterday I got to a point where I had to drop the boutique lot back in, so I looked into the problem again... first trying out the tips you provided me with again, to no avail.

Then, I looked and found the original lot, which was modified from the Deliciously Indulgent Bakery, which I modified again to fit the architecture of my world better. That imported into EIG just fine - and featured EAxis pedestals.

So then I thought what I had changed about the lot, and besides removing the top floor of the original build, I also added a bit of Store content in (which I thought I had on my CAW Sims folder), and a single CC object. I deleted all that, creating a CC-free lot. And that version imported fine. And it had Ani's pedestals in them (I accidentally forgot replacing or deleting them first).

Trying to edit the lot in EIG to add the stuff back in which I had removed, I realised the actual problem at hand...
In my build, I used a single roof décor from the Mother Russia store set... which I did not have installed on my CAW game.
I replaced it with a different spire in my original (full) game, and the lot suddenly imported fine, again with Ani's pedestals being present.

Not just that, but I also went further and was able to save the world with the lot in it, and even export the world afterwards, and install it, heck I'm even playing it right now and Ani's pedestals work as they should!
Sadly, what does not get saved is all the changed outfits I gave to the mannequins, and all the pedestal settings got reset to Female Young Adult, which is a bit of a bummer but also kind of expected.

In addition, Ani's pedestals are quite delicate in EIG, unlike the original EAxis pedestals - even if they are not the cause for EIG softlocking. You can place lots that contain them, and you can edit those lots in EIG, and save the world. But after saving it and exiting EIG, you can't load the world anymore, so the lot(s) containing Ani's pedestals may have to be the last ones you put into a world before you export it.

What still needs testing from my behalf (I might update this post if I remember to):

Do mannequin settings get saved with the EAxis pedestals? After all, these can be modified directly in EIG (using testingcheatsenabled), unlike Ani's pedestals that require you to be in Live mode to change the mannequin data.

Is it possible to edit the world in EIG if the lot containing the pedestals is not loaded along (using Rflong7's method that he posted into the Sims forums)?

But overall, I'm just glad that the day I spent editing this massive lot was not completely wasted.
