Non-active sims swimming everywhere...

Post by natbsim75 » September 7th, 2021, 10:16 am

Hello again... My question today is about my inactive sims who try to swim around all my worlds, instead of using vehicles on the land.
I recently noticed this behaviour in Barnacle Bay. After I set GoHere>Boat routing to False because the inactive sims tried to use boats and they managed to get stuck in the endless loop "get on the boat - try to move - go back to the beach - get on the boat again" and so on, they think that they have to swim all around Barnacle Bay since the boats are disallowed from GoHere. It's like playing in Isla Paradiso and have mermaids swim all around the islands even though the sims I'm talking about are definitely not mermaids (mermaids are allowed only in Isla Paradiso and nowhere else in my games). The last sim I caught doing that was Finn Annan, who was trying to swim from Ophelia's Fishing Hole to his house. He would have needed a whole sim-day to acomplish that... This sim lives in a huge freaking mansion and he and his family start the game with 2 or 3 very expensive cars in their garage (EA were feeling generous, lol!), so it's not that he couldn't afford to drive to his house!
Is there a mod or a setting in the mods that I already have (GoHere, MasterController, OverWatch, Register, Retuner, StoryProgression) that can help? The "swimming everywhere" is one of the things I hate most in Isla Paradiso and (mysteriously enough!) not the lag and now it's back in all the other worlds... Please help!!!

They will swim if you've disabled boats, yes. It sounds like EA might have just broken the routing with that world with IP if the route they are swimming is not the shortest.

Hello Chain_Reaction and thank you for replying!
I figured that much, that EA has broken something with the sims' routing but is there a setting from a mod to stop the sims from behaving this way? Maybe Retuner? Can I disallow autonomous swimming in the ocean? On the other hand, Finn's tag icon on the map said "Finn is going home", it didn't mention swimming. And the way he was trying to "go home" was definitely not the shortest. If you are familiar with the Bernacle Bay map, Ophelia's Fishing Hole is on the far left side of the map and the guy's home is on the far right, which means that he meant to swim all around the world, literally (and probably get drowned from exhaustion before reaching "home"!).
The other problem is that I can't allow boat routing from GoHere because sims can't use boats in the sea, they get in the boat, they get out of the boat, they get in again and they get trapped in an endless loop from which even OW can't save them because they aren't really trapped somewhere so OW can't spot something wrong and reset them. It's... Bridgeport all over again, only now it's backwards because OW doesn't have any sim to reset, lol!

I have an opposite problem, if I may step in here. I'm frustrated with sims trying to take boats over small bodies of water (in my town there's a bigger swamp area). They get stuck because the boat can't route and the sims don't get out so they are trapped there unless I manually (or a mod does) reset them. I've tried to turn off taxi boats but couldn't find an option for that in Traffic. Was I looking from the wrong place?

I doubt it can help, however I also have this town and... I have not yet seen a single sim in this world who would sail on a boat without an obvious reason. But maybe you should move some sims who live in the most unfortunate point of the island.

The option to turn off all boat routing, not just taxi boats, is available in NRaas Go Here, not Traffic. :-)

Here's the link to the interaction on Go Here's Documents page: GoHere-Interactions#Allow-Boat-Routing

Thanks! But now I wonder, what are considered "boats"? Are there other types of boats than the taxi boats? (I don't play that much on beach worlds.) Does this affect house boats? Or windsurfing (I guess not, isn't that like its completely own thing)? And I assume that when turning boats off, I can still have my active sims use them directed, but inactives won't use them?

No those are considered residential lots.

Or windsurfing
I believe those count as boats.
But I think GoHere only affects the taxi boats. If a sim owns a boat they will probably use it but I've rarely ever seen that happen.
But I also play in Twinbrook and the swamp is the only place sims can use boats and I almost never seen boats used there. The big inland lake is considered fresh water and unusable for boats. Just like Moonlight Falls the only place to use boats is down by the beach as the upper river and lake is considered fresh water.

Is there not a difference here though between using/considering using boats for routing (to routinely get from Point A to Point B) which is what GoHere tries to control, and using boats recreationally, for fun?

Maybe not really sure, do boats even have a Fun motive advertisement?
The only time I've ever seen them use them was to get to point A to point B, but I mainly play in Twinbrook, Moonlight Falls and SV where boats won't really be a problem if they use them.
In Twinbrook there is really nothing in the swamp that would interest inactives to travel around there. Moonlight Falls and SV you only have the 2 beaches they can travel back and forth to with boats.
