Overwatch Testing v115

Post by babele44 » February 23rd, 2014, 4:09 pm

This is my first feedback after adding the test version 115 to my game.
I checked two things, the Science skill fix, of course, and the Descendant clean-up.
(1) Most Science skill conversation topics were now present after sending my Sim to the future. The Stimulus Response test, however, was missing for whatever reason. I saved and reloaded the future save and it was still missing.
(2) Descendants
When my Sim first visited the future for the first time he had 4 descendants, an adult couple and their two kids. The second visit then had killed off everyone except for the adult female and placed the graves of the other three in the mausoleum.
The family ties were already severed either by the game or by Overwatch 113.
Overwatch 115 doesn't seem to have changed anything in that respect, but produced a script error instead. The graves are still there and after spawning one of their ghosts my Sim still recognised him as a descendant.
I sent my Sim back to the present and sent his roommate to the future. Overwatch threw the same script error again.
I will upload the two script errors thrown by Overwatch within the next minutes.

I was thinking "I know I saw that one while testing the fix.". Now I see why, I had the new Traveler to unlock it. Another one blocked in the Future unfortunately. Glad you now have the ones not blocked though. :)

Interesting that it didn't wipe the graves out. I'm not sure what happened there as the code doesn't have a block protecting them. Either way, that was the desired result for you. I have corrected the code to explicitly block dead descendants from being deleted so it won't be a worry shortly.

As for the error, that's a sticky one. It looks like some descendants got wiped somewhere as the list of Sims changed while Overwatch was cleaning up the relationships. I'll have to ponder how to work around it. Overall it's nothing serious though. The cleanup will work correctly the next time around.

Cheers for your feedback.

Ok, I can see now why the deletion of the descendants' urnstones makes sense in a way. For the sake of testing I added MasterController to my vanilla folder and switched households after the initial household had already activated the time portal. As soon as this is done, every household in a world receives the time almanac and if the switched-to household opens the almanac they will be added to it and remain there, even after switching back. After switching back, I sent my main Sim to the future again and all his previous descendants were replaced by a new set and the old set was transferred to the mausoleum. I guess if one does this more often, the mausoleum will be full in no time.

That is EA's one active household mind set. Very annoying. I'm looking into adding loadup options which would allow me to add an option to protect dead descendants or wipe them. I can appreciate that some people may want to keep their previous set of descendants.
