How to exempt certain households from StoryProgression?

Post by Garfieldwxg55 » January 21st, 2023, 3:52 am

Hi, I’ve been using this mod a bit in my Sims 3 save, and I’ve been really enjoying it. However, there was one thing that I wanted to change. I want the mod’s normal story progression settings for all the townies. However, I’d like for my played households to be somewhat exempt from this story progression, maybe just advancing their careers, learning skills, and of course ageing. And I definitely don’t want them to have kids or change their careers. I want to be able to leave them, and then come back to them and then to be relatively unchanged, with maybe only increased skills and a few promotions.

I was wondering if this is possible, and if so, how might I be able to accomplish this? Any help is greatly appreciated!

What you want is a caste for your played households, with the caste having certain restrictions on what the included sims can do. It's a little complicated to set up, but once you've done that, you can add or remove households at will. Here are two examples:

Just pick the settings that work for you, then add the households you want covered.

If you have questions about which specific settings to apply, just ask. As an example, it sounds like you want Career: Allow Progression to be True (sims can get promotions) but Career: Allow Find Job to be False (sims can't change jobs).

Thanks for your help! I'll try and start setting this up! I imagine that the “Non Active Family” caste is the one that includes the my unplayed households? Thanks again for your help!

The Inactive caste applies to all sims that aren't currently active, so both the households you plan on playing or have played before and all the others in town. If you want all of them to be governed by the same rules, you can of course use this built-in caste. But if there are some households you'll never play and would like them to progress normally, you'll want a separate caste for your rotational households.
