Slow down Active's Promotions

Post by JohnL83 » January 15th, 2023, 6:00 pm

How do I slow down my actives being promoted? It's almost too easy! The settings in SP ie "Job Difficulty Scale" I have set to 5, but when you set that it says it is for inactive Sims and, as it is, my inactives move up quite slowly! So much so they often don't reach the top within their YA and A lifespans. (BTW I have my lifespans very long...YA is 150 and A is 200.) I'm fine with my inactives because I can make promotions as-needed by increasing their performances manually, but I'd rather not do that with my active Sims.

My active Sim is in Education and halfway through his YA life now he's already the Dept head, which I keep demoting him to High School Teacher via MC, I'd like him to stay there until he's a middle aged adult and then worry about moving up! I never give lectures and have him only visit with coworkers or "take it easy" and though I have 36 days to become an adult, it does not seem to be adjusting to age span very well, even though that is set to TRUE. What gives here?
Also, Decrease rate and adjust active performance are all set to TRUE. Perhaps I am misunderstanding what these do? I don't mind other jobs moving up quickly, like Journalists or Astronauts as those jobs are often filled by younger people, but I like my Sim teaching school and I don't want him to keep getting promoted until I'm ready.

We are talking about actively controlled sims? I think you are missing what some us might call the obvious solution here now that you have the difficult parts, namely job performance for inactives, all working perfectly . Or maybe it's just me.

Send your sims to work tired, hungry, and in a bad mood. There is more to life than work, as evidenced by the fact they were doing whatever the wanted to last night until 5am anyway. Have them argue with their boss and sleep under their desks (or the equivalent career tone) most of the day, but get just enough positive work done to prevent job performance scores from dropping too far and to avoid being demoted or fired.

Remember, TS3 isn't a game we have to fight to play to "win," not counting a few oddball exceptions like tomb quests. There is abosulutely nothing wrong with getting Cs in school/at Uni, being no more than average at work, and otherwise reveling in mediocrity if it seems happiness in life comes from other sources. Not counting the exceptional over-achievers and those who truly find work fun, as long as my sims stay happy and healthy their entire lives then I feel like I have accomplished something with them. :)

Yes, I am having issues with my active family being promoted too easily even when I pick the lazy options for the work day. Perhaps I will also skip a day or two and try going in tired or something less desirable than "taking it easy" or visiting all day with employees. (which seems to be the way to move up the ladder in Simland...cuz that's been this guys only move since he was playground monitor!)

And yes my inactives are okay, but I do wish they'd move up a tad faster than the game lets them. But as I stated I generally just pick a few to have 100% job performance now and then and things work out. I figured 5 was low for job difficulty, but most of my inactives have less than a 50% job performance most of the time!

Couldn't you just use SP to set Career: Allow Progression to False in Sim Options for this sim, at least until you're ready for him to start moving up again? I remember a while ago I'd set this to False for teens when I started the save because I didn't want them getting part-time jobs without my intervention, and then a bunch of house rotations later I was temporarily confused as to why a teen, the first one I'd played in that save, wasn't gaining job or school performance.
