Hi guys at NRaas Industries,

The site is hardly loading these days for many and folks get timeout errors trying to load the forum index (myself included, it finally loaded today, but it took ages). NRaas simply cannot go down, the mods are vital to us all! -Scared-

Yeah, it looks as if their disk space on the server is getting full, or their database is corrupted/needs fixing. Or (less likely) it's some type of DDoS attack.

Either way they're all easy fixes provided there's someone on the team who knows how to manage a server!

We will thank our valued members in advance for not presuming to know how to run this place. It's not as simple as it may look to the casual eye, no matter how many sites they may have experience protecting and running elsewhere. And we owe Chain_Reaction a huge debt of gratitude for working so hard to keep this site going, as he has for years now, There may be hiccups along the way, there may be temporary loss or degradation of service occasionally, but as he said we ultimately aren't going anywhere as long as there are TS3 players interested and engaged in using and discussing NRaas mods!

I was unable to reach the site last night (European time), but this morning it's loading fine. I know this isn't the first DdoS attack, but I know Chain is well capable of handling this, and have full faith that it will work out fine. I'm just angry that he has to deal with this when he already puts so much time and effort in maintaining the site that he barely has time to work on the mods anymore, let alone play the game.

And I would like to join Igazor in expressing my gratitude for Chain's hard work on this site and the mods for all these years. I know I'm not the only one who wouldn't consider this game worth playing if it wasn't for NRaas.

I chose to say 'these days', because I felt I couldn't speak for how long others have had problems. The others that I had heard were having problems too. I meant no offense, promise. And I also didn't know what the exact problem was.

Anyway, the site appears to be back to its speedy self again, so thank you! Also relieved to hear that it will be staying up for the foreseeable future

I'm not sure what you mean these days. The issue started about 24 hours ago as far as I'm aware. We are dealing with a 5GB/s DDOS attack and the front facing server cluster is working on filtering valid requests. You will notice that it will load after several seconds and things should be speeding up as requests are lowering over the last few hours as I fine tune the filtering. Until the imbecile gets bored trying to exhaust my servers and my patience, things will be a bit slower than usual. The site is otherwise fine and going no where.

Just for you to know: here in BR the site wasn't reachable on March 18th (saturday). I tried it many times for about 1h.
March 19th (sunday morning) have tried to reach the site but the same issue.
I could reach the site on March 20th afternoon.

In my non-Sim life I run a server for an online mag and we went through a period last year of getting DDoS and Brute Forced every blessed day! They have bots crawling for vulnerabilities at random.

I saw you're using Cloudflare, which is a good option. And it looks like you beat them.

@Igazor - if you're referring to me - ouch - I didn't mean to imply any criticism. I was trying to reassure the OP that even worst case scenario was unlikely to endanger the site's existence is all. If a server is run properly these attacks can be handled in the end - tho they are also a royal PITA.

Sorry if I expressed myself badly! I adore this place and its community and am very grateful for its continued existence

Maybe I was a tiny bit triggered that day, but I was not totally convinced that you were criticizing at the time. What I was trying to do was set aside other members' concerns that no one was at the helm, so to speak, or watching over the site without knowing which actions to take and in what order when something out of the ordinary affects the site. I've seen message boards like this one get overrun with users with less sophisticated experience (not you, I mean what would be others) adding well-meaning but not really helpful suggestions to the mix, and plenty of others that seemed to be downright abandoned by their founders/managers. Those extended conversations would not be an effective use of anyone's time, hence my reaction.
