Retuner stops working..

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Retuner stops working..

Post by Eela » June 19th, 2021, 1:20 pm

Hi!
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I can usually find my questions already answered somewhere, but this time I'm outta luck.

I seem to be having some strange issues with the Retuner. After I play a few (sim) weeks, it seems to drop/reset/not read my settings adjustments anymore. That's to say, some still stick, like the cooking alterations and lunar cycle fix for no zombies. All autonomy settings spesific for seasons disappear, and I think in general. My changes for how many traits they can have and number of interactions in qeue also vanish. I tried a total reset of the mod, then resetting the whole town, saving and quitting to desktop. Then go back in and reimport the settings, save, quit and restart. But it seems like it won't import the settings again once this has happened.
Yesterday I backtracked my saves to find one where the settings were still intact and played from there, keeping a paranoid eye on my retuner (doublechecking that my traits settings were still correct) before and after every save. But when I loaded my game today, the were gone again.
I exported an XML from one save where my adjusted settings show correct in game, and one from a save where it doesn't, and from what I can tell, they're identical.. So I would assume it's supposed to be correct in game.

Any help would be much appreaciated..

Retuner stops working..

Hi there. This may seem like kind of a silly question (sorry), but are you consistently letting the game clock move forward smoothly for at least a few sim minutes before checking on your Retuner settings? They load very last in the startup order as Retuner itself is a script mod and is meant to overwrite just about all else that it covers in case of conflicts, so it's not exactly the same as having standalone tuning mods that load up near the beginning. If you have a LOT of things to load at startup, it may take more than just a few sim minutes.

I usually start the game paused and then run the game clock for like 5 or 10 sim minutes before checking on or trying to use any script mods as otherwise things are just not in a completely loaded state.

Hey! Thanks for replying :)

Since patience isn’t always my strongest virtue, I might try letting the gameclock run a little longer next time I load up just to be sure. But the first time I noticed the missing extra interactions for the qeue, I had already played at least a sim day or two. That’s why I started poking around in Retuner only to find the reat of them missing. Neither is it the first time it’s happened, I’ve just either assumed I fiddled with something I shouldn’t have or been too lazy to check it before.. I unfortunately have ‘restart’ and ‘new game’ syndrome, so I don’t always play for too long on the same game..

Another thing to try that some players have reported helps with Retuner imports is, after the import, do a Save As, quit, and reload the game. Sometimes that kicks the freshly imported settings into submission (and don't import other mods' settings in the same Overwatch step as Retuner, handle that one separately).

That doesn't speak to the mod's newly imported settings working for a while and then suddenly not a few sim weeks later, if that is part of what you were reporting, as that is not the general user's experience with the mod.

What kind of install is this (Origin, Steam, retail discs and at which patch level, something else)? Might there be some hard hitting core mod or something else from a source other than NRaas that is possibly interfering with things during the startup sequence -- in other words, can you reproduce the issue with NRaas mods only in play?

Save as, quit and reload is standard procedure whenever I activate mods ingame. And retuner has been imported separately, at least for this game in particular.
Yes, that is what I’m experiencing and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. I know I haven’t fiddled with anything this time except replacing the retuner import at some point. The first has default settings for pregnancy at the beginning due to pregnant sims in town, but otherwise the settings are the same.
I have a Steam version, patch 67. I’m pretty sure I don’t have any sneaky core mods, but I’ll double check in the morning. Most of what’s in the mods folder are things I know others use successfully with the NRAAS suite. I also recently downloaded the entire suite anew after changing hard drive and reinstalling, so they’re all up to daye, but I haven’t tried reproducing the effect without ‘external’ mods... I’ll have to look into that..

One final suggestion to add, although it sounds like you are doing everything carefully and correctly so this probably isn't it either. Have you cleared (deleted) the scriptCache lately? It needs to be done on a somewhat regular basis and certainly whenever the contents of Mods\Packages or Overrides changes in any way.

Hehe, yes.. I delete all 5 cache files between every game load up, and almost always the world caches. Thank you for the suggestions so far though, I’ll try the game clock one first (if that’s it, I’ll be slightly embarrassed I think) and if that doesn’t work, I’ll try a speedy gameplay with only NRAAS mods to see if I can reproduce the situation..

Okay, sounds like a plan. By the way, clearing the WorldCaches doesn't really accomplish anything unless you are experiencing a problem with world-defined objects or they pertain to a world that you know you are never going to play again within the same ongoing save. They just rebuild again, slowly, and that can have an impact on game performance while it is happening.

Aha, one less thing I have to worry about then. Thanks for the info, I was under the impression that it had a similar effect as the other cache files..

So.. I was just typing up an update about how I managed to reproduce the problem with only NRAAS mods in game, and how the settings seemed to drop at the change of the season, when I decided to open my exported XML to double check something.. And then, I realized that a handful of my settings have been set to only summer.. So no wonder they keep disappearing after a couple of weeks.. I'm so sorry make a fuzz about it, but I am grateful for your help and suggestions, they did ultimately lead me to find the issue..
