Disable autonomous give gift interaction for NPCs

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Disable autonomous give gift interaction for NPCs

Post by simsdreams » October 31st, 2020, 6:32 pm

hi there, after I installed generations expansion pack I've noticed nearly EVERY single NPC will incessantly Give Gift to other sims, and it's driving my town insane w/ bloating inventory and ridiculous affairs.

I have Retuner and went through the settings for social interaction under General settings, I found the Give Gift interaction, but the allow autonomy is already set to False, user directed is set to True, yet NPCs still do this autonomously. only my active household does not do this interaction autonomously so I suspect that setting is not impacting NPCs for some reason.

how do I disable autonomy for Give Gift interaction for ALL sims including NPCs? I looked at the page linked below for Retuner mod, and in the list I see an option for controlling autonomy for sims on free will (the first "allow autonomous" section in the page) but in the actual game menu I don't see all of these options only some, so wondering if I'm looking in the wrong section in Retuner?

http://www.nraas.net/community/Retuner- ... Autonomous

any ideas? has anyone else had similar issues?

thanks and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Giving flowers (in person) is not the same interaction as giving a gift (in person), the flowers thing is a romantic interaction.

Strange, I've never seen such widespread fixation on that one unless the one running around giving everyone flowers has the Inappropriate or Insane traits (and then it's kind of funny, but only up to a point in relatively small doses). I take it you do not have an entire world full of Inappropriate and Insane sims just by chance.

Retuner should certainly be able to reach it and reel it in, if it's the specific Give Flowers interaction's settings that are adjusted and not the one for friendly gift giving.

Hi. This is weird, because I don't remember regulating this autonomy. Sims never did it manually, they just filled their mailboxes with gifts. Just in case, there is this solution for this problem. Also, I can say that some annoying social interactions are regulated on sims or on objects. Try to call the Retuner by clicking on objects that may be the reason of all this bedlam. Show Object Menu must be True.

My sims never get gifts, except through the mailbox, and I just sell that stuff. Nonactives don't seem to get any gifts.
If you see sims giving each other gifts, do you have any other mods that may cause that?

Not exactly what you asked, but you can abolish the wishes that sims get to give gifts as part of Shimrod's DMTR No Wishes series:

I think it might be helpful here to recognize that there are (at least) two different gift giving scenarios.

One is giving a gift to a sim in person as a friendly social interaction.

The other is getting gifts in the mail from admirers. (I believe the Seasons patch added this, sorry to say, nonsense, although sims will also get gifts this way for being a celebrity or running a successful blog)

I don't think that inactive sims really get random gifts in the mail like our actively controlled household does (though not sure if they do have a blog going and the player is rotating active households while playing). But the tuning settings behind one kind of gifting aren't going to control the other -- the mods or settings that control gifts in the mail are from the receiver's end because much like with wedding gifts the sim who is the supposed sender isn't "really" purchasing and sending these things.

hi everyone, thanks for the responses! I think I need to clarify, the give gift interaction I'm referring to is the one under the romantic/friendly interactions, not the one in the mail

specifically, I've noticed the one that's being spammed by NPCs is Giving flowers

I understand the gifts by mail is from seasons so that one is working just fine. I have a separate mod for that one to reduce it

however the giving flowers thing between 2 sims (NPCs) is the one that came with Generations and all my NPCs incessantly give flowers to pretty much every other sim, this is the interaction I wanted to disable autonomy for, and haven't been able to figure it out via Retuner

hope this makes it a bit more clear :)

thanks for the response! it's actually the giving flowers interaction that my NPCs incessantly keep spamming, the one w/ the mailbox is working just fine. the mods I've had in my game I've played w/ for about a year before I added in Generations and this giving flowers thing between NPCs only started happening after I installed Generations, I did go thru my other mods and they don't really have any impact on giving gifts, I have been assuming it's a weird bug w/ Generations that never got fixed so was hoping retuner could be used as a workaround

interestingly enough, the date calls never happened to me XD my sims rarely get calls for dates, but the giving flowers interaction is like a disease amongst my NPCs XD the gifts via mailbox that came w/ seasons is working just fine, it's the Giving flowers interaction that I have been seeing my NPCs spam like crazy, so was hoping I could use retuner to tweak it to make it not autonomous for all sims.

I will also go thru retuner again and check under the Sims or objects section, this is the first time I'm using retuner to change interactions so I wasn't sure where to find it...the only thing I've used retuner for before this, was the pregnancy tunable XML haha

yeah my world definitely isn't full of inappropriate or insane sims haha, I've been vetting thru their traits too by viewing it via MC, and it seems like just any NPC will give flowers to any other sim

I will double check again in Retuner for giving flowers, maybe I was looking in the wrong place...I kept thinking it was called "give gift" didn't realize it would be a separate one from give flowers

I see. The "give flowers" action is used by sims with low charisma score and/or none of the facilitating traits, because they have hardly any other option for a romantic interaction. And that's the main reason why it is that often seen on inactives. My active sims usually don't have that issue in the first place, as they have lots of other romantic interactions to choose from.
