Retuner Repair Settings

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Retuner Repair Settings

Post by brappl » February 10th, 2018, 12:59 pm

It's always annoyed me at the frequency toilets, sinks, showers, computers and appliances break; including the expensive objects. I play rotational and more often than not I go back to a household I played only 3 sim days ago the house hold needs repairs again.

I was using DebugEnabler one household at a time and upgrading as things broke. Recently I have been changing the hours unbreakable in Retuner and that works very well however each object in each category needs to have its settings adjusted on a one to one basis.

I think I know the answer to this but am going to ask anyway :) Is there a setting anywhere in Retuner where each class of appliances etc. can be set so it will allow the settings to be available to all objects in a particular category?

Unless I have a sim in the household that needs to increase their handiness skill, I just use MC to repair all! Got fed up with showers breaking!

Hi MoMoll... I have MC Repair All and Clean as hot keys. I am trying to get things set up so I won't need those so often. Every house I return to playing rotational style has something in need of repair and there is a real mess as a result of that.

Hi brappl!

I've noticed the same thing happening in my game and thought it was due to this setting in Story Progression: 'General Options > Options: Households > Allow Break > True' but even after changing that to false, I still kept seeing broken objects everywhere.

Then I found this setting in the Careers mod: 'General > Find Broken: Allow To Break > True' and changed that to False.

I haven't played much since changing the last one so don't know for sure if it helps but it might. :-)

The Careers mod setting applies to the custom Handysim self-employed career, specifically when they go on a computer looking for customers with broken objects in their home to repair -- in other words, on True the computer action of looking for a customer actually breaks something in a sim's home and then focuses the game camera on their house so the player knows where to send the Handysim. I don't think it's intended to have any other impact than that.

Each appliance class has repair tuning, there's no one size fits all I'm afraid. But this is a set it and forget it thing is it not? Or are those particular settings not exporting?

@Sarah - Where are you finding that setting? I don't see it in the documentation.

Also, yes, the careers setting has nothing to do with things breaking.

Thank you Sarah, igazor and Chain.

I was not sure if the Handyman career would be impacted but was prepared to forego playing that career if necessary.
I was expecting to hear there is no "one size fits all" but hoping I was wrong. However, once I have changed the settings they do remain in tact. Also noteworthy, I do not have my settings adjusted so far out things never break. I just want to see breakage at a more reasonable pace :)

Thanks again guys. Much appreciated ;)

@igazor: Regarding the Handysim self-employed career, that's what I thought but I don't have any inactive sims with that career nor am I playing one in my current active family, so no objects should be breaking, especially with the SP option turned off as well, right? That's not what I'm seeing so was clutching at straws here lol! Thanks for the clarification though. :-)

@Chain: Sorry, I missed out a step. It should be: Story Progression > General Options > Options: Households > Options: Lots > Allow Break > True
Even after setting that to 'False' though, every house I visit still has broken objects, i.e. every toilet is clogged and every tap of every sink is pouring water all over the floor. I also see notifications in the top right-hand corner (from Story Progression?) stating that all sims in the world with the 'Handy' trait are going around town fixing all the broken objects. This shouldn't be happening with this setting on False, should it? I thought objects breaking in inactive households was only controlled by SP. Am I wrong on that? :-)

@brappl: Thanks for bringing this subject up - it's been bugging me for ages. Thought it was just my game but it's good to know someone else is seeing it too. :-)

@Sarah - You are welcome. I finally got to the end of my rope with the constant breaking of appliances, electronics and plumbing. I am interested in hearing Chain's response. I always though objects breaking was controlled by Retuner and that does appear to be the case in my game for the moment with the exception of some of the objects I have not yet changed the hours before break settings.

@brappl: Yes, Retuner can be used to tune objects not to break so frequently but I thought that only applied to the active household. I've always thought, in a vanilla game with EA's SP running, objects in inactive households don't break at all but it's been so long since I played a vanilla game, I can't remember lol! I'm looking forward to Chain's response too. :-)
