Sim glitches when trying to write

About One Drive. I found out the hard way that there is a new & more obscure way to uninstall One Drive. Even editing your registry will not do it correctly. I ended up having to reinstall it over the installation that had become broken in my attempts to remove it, and then follow directions to find the new place to uninstall it. (I had other errors that had accumulated too, some of them from apparently before I owned the computer, but this One Drive thing caused me a _lot_ of trouble)

Sim glitches when trying to write

yep, I did all of these already but still nothing. I also cant find the errors after trying to launch the game, the only ones that are recorded were caused by me manually closing down a program with task manager. i can send the screenshot of the error itself but uhhh its in polish so maybe ill try to translate it? Its basically "TS3.exe - system error Couldnt execute code because the .dll object was not found. Reinstalling this program may resolve this issue" (plot twist: it didnt). I managed to acquire the other code though, and yeah it is strange that the documents folder is in OneDrive, but after disabling OneDrive everything worked great and the only thing that doesnt work in the Documents folder is The Sims 3... And I dont really know how to move it out of there either or if its the issue

Code: Select all

C:\Users\[username]>reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
    Personal REG_SZ C:\Users\[username]\OneDrive\Dokumenty

The standard way to change the location is to keep OneDrive running but elect not to sync Documents anymore, confirm that Documents hs moved back to Users > your username > Documents (no OneDrive in the file path), and only then remove OneDrive if necessary. If OneDrive is running at all, I would highly suggest doing this. Here's a walkthrough in case it helps:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Iss ... 370#Remove

If that doesn't work, here's how to change the location of Documents the hard way:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/top ... c9aaccd720

Please make absolutely sure not to touch anything else, only the Personal value, and only use the default value of %USERPROFILE%\Documents , not anything else.

Once you've confirmed that Documents is in the correct location, remove or rename the entire Sims 3 user folder (again), and then try to play. If the game won't open, please let us know what antivirus you use.

Sim glitches when trying to write

thanks, okay so. I managed to change the directive to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders Personal REG_SZ C:\Users\[username]\Documents and went through the 5 stages of grief since onedrive deleted my desktop shortcuts and turned all my files into chaos so thats a win, but TS3 is still not working, still the same error about the .dll file not being found... I found a website to download .dll files but the problem is it doesnt say which .dll file is missing. I also have no antiviruses installed, so I probably only have the Microsoft Defender one. I disabled the real time protection but TS3 is still not working. I'm running out of ideas honestly

Absolutely do not download any .dll file from a random website. That is an excellent way to get a virus. Even if you did need to replace a .dll manually, you'd do so by reinstalling the program it belongs to, and you'd download the program from a first-party source; it usually wouldn't help to simply place the .dll wherever it's supposed to go.

Please uninstall Sims 3 with Revo Uninstaller (the free version is fine). Before doing so, rename the user folder, where your saves and other user files are located, to something that doesn't include "Sims 3" in its name, so Revo can't find it. Uninstall the EA App with Revo too.

Reinstall the App, and create a new folder where you'll install Sims 3. The folder should be on the root level of the drive of your choice, e.g. C:\Games, not C:\Program Files\Games. Try to launch Sims 3 with just the Task Manager workaround, no Alder Lake patch or anything else. And don't restore your user files either, at least not yet.

Sim glitches when trying to write

Post by Ash257 » February 28th, 2024, 4:28 pm

thanks, alright. so. now the game finally opens and works without any files of my own, but the problem happens when I try to bring back the files - the game starts loading and it abruptly crashes, always at the same point. also i know the issue is with the mods folder since i tested with only that folder as well. I have Dashboard but it doesnt tell me that any files are corrupted etc, so its pretty strange. Considering how many mods I have trying to figure out which one is the issue would be hell, manually removing each file and then starting up the game to check would take me years but idk if theres any other way

The 50/50 method is much faster:

https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title= ... .25_Method

But keep in mind you may have more than one broken file; just because you find the first one doesn't mean everything else is fine. So make sure that every file tests clean at least once.

Cupcake without the store set installed as well as MC progression without storyprogression can cause this. Any of those?

Sim glitches when trying to write

Post by Ash257 » February 29th, 2024, 6:25 pm

alright. it works. my sim finally finished her twilight fanfic. there were a few issues trying to do that, but all the culprits were packages that had to do something with the Baker Station? I have no idea whats wrong with the Baker Station, the other mods from the same creators worked fine. Thanks for all your help, if anything I also have an issue with some of my CC not loading so she finished that fanfic surrounded by red walls, but idk if I should make a new topic on this because it might be an easy fix (the CC comes from Rosewood Park and I realized the CC works but the only few patterns that dont work and are plain red/white are the ones I used in my house. ................ How??? When I check in Rosewood Park the pattern works but its still red/white in build mode when selecting a pattern. why)
