Keep getting Overwatch script error, how to find mod that causes it

Overwatch is indeed detecting a corrupt custom pattern.

I'm sorry, is this not clear enough? There is a mechanism in the game for players to create their own patterns using the Create a Pattern (CAP) tool. If you never do this yourself, then some form of CC you have in play has used it and included a broken, corrupt pattern in its download.

Hi,

It seems to me that the other error besides the pattern is unlikely to be related to the Smooth Patch package file, as its errors usually come directly from CAS. But if you do plan to install Smooth Patch again, then as I wrote in this post, I think it would be enough to install the latest updated version where the author has disabled the lists acceleration feature for MC CAS. After installation, just in case, make sure you don't have the ld_SmoothPatch_MasterController.package file. And I also recommend to install ErrorTrap. :)

igazor, maybe it is worth updating the announcement with the information that the latest version without the MC file should be compatible?

As an aside, LD's launcher is fine. In my experience, it doesn't cause any errors, just prevents some annoyances. All Smooth Patch issues seem to have been caused by the ld_SmoothPatch_MasterController.package file alone.

Turjan, not really. The incompatible code for the lists acceleration feature is still in the ld_SmoothPatch.package file, it's just disabled through tuning. The MC file was supposed to provide compatibility with MC CAS, but something went wrong. If you re-enable the kMasterControllerIntegration tuning in the ld_SmoothPatch.package file, the errors when using MC CAS will return.

Not sure we have reached that conclusion entirely yet.

The Smoothness Patch 2.x (any version above 1.x) alone, without the broken MC support element, certainly does not rise to the level of being unsupportable here but I'm not sure we are ready to make it sound like we are recommending its usage. I still feel that the entire thing (not the Launcher) is in more of a "Use At Your Own Risk" category, but maybe there's a slightly gentler way to say that. "Still experimental," perhaps?

As you can see, we do not turn players away who need mod assistance just because the Smoothness Patch 2.x itself is seen to be in play. But it does still add more variables to the mix, for some players apparently on certain systems, that make troubleshooting more of a challenge than prior.

Will need to confer with the rest of the management team on the best phrasing.

Yeah, I should have worded that differently, as I was rather referring to the launcher.

I've been using the launcher and those other components of the smooth patch that don't go into the Mods folder for more than a year now, and I don't see any issues. At least for me personally, that's enough of a conclusion, and I just wanted to share that. I don't have any function here (aside from being a general user), and I hope nobody confuses my words with an official endorsement.

I want to make clear that I acknowledge that you didn't really say anything to the contrary. The removal of the launcher was something the OP wanted to do. For someone not familiar with the issue, this may look as if there were something wrong with the launcher. Which nobody claimed.

I'd say the announcement is fair. It mentions the the problem file and doesn't say the patch it's self is an issue. Of course it'll be moot once the file has been out of circulation of installs for a bit. I remain thankful it is no longer as it takes a good deal of the support's here free time to respond to threads only for it to be another smooth patch issue. I appreciate the nod to try to make it compatible and hopefully that's something that can be worked on again at some point either by me or the creator. My stance on the patch it's self remains that it is experimental overall as the simulator running at a faster rate than designed could pose issues though the install base with no issues is definitely respectable. I don't think the mod is dangerous by any means, just that it's one of those things for more advanced users. I have no opinion on the launcher as I've never used it.

This is off topic, but given that this is a technical forum and a lot of errors have already been sorted out here, could we create a handy table with mods that can break the game in one way or another? For example, we could put there the name of the mod, a description of the problem, the degree of risk and a link to the possible solution (if it exists). I think it would be very useful. 🤔
