Game Crashing When Saving

Post by Jeees » December 23rd, 2023, 10:33 pm

Hey everyone! I'm getting this error again everytime I try to save my game. I had happened before and I moved to a new save file. But now it came back. I have no clue why this is happening. I removed the new mods and cc I added, but it's still crashing even with that and clearing cache.

Hi there. That's just an ErrorTrap Correction Log. One or two of these will be thrown every game session to show the unnecessary leftover data that ErrorTrap has cleaned up or must ignore if it can't figure out what it is. It has no errors and cannot be the cause of the game crashing.

Do you have any other script logs from around this time? Given that we don't know which mods you removed just now (some are not easily or even ever removable once in play), are things more stable if you set this save aside just for now and begin a new game?

Unfortunately no. That was the only script error . If i start a new save my game saves super fast and it dosent crash when saving. But when it comes to this particular save it takes about 20 mins to save or it crash while saving for 10+ mins. This did happen before so i used nraas porter to move them to a new save. But it came back to the new save after only two sim weeks. This family is my legacy family and Im on generation four and really invested😭. i do play in a custom world Anne Arbor by mysimreality .

Not sure right away if Anne Arbor is one of the custom worlds known for being too large and intricate to play for very long. Perhaps other players here can let us know.

If you could, please run this game save in Windowed Mode with Task Manager open. Tell us how much RAM TS3.exe in particular is using (in MBs or GBs, not %s) when you

a - start up the save
b - after you play normally for at least a couple of sim hours
c - as the game attempts to save but of course before it crashes (watch for any spikes in particular near or over 3.5 GB of usage)

Usually RAM overload leads to Erro12s upon trying to save rather than a crash, but that's not really any better if the session is unsavable and sometimes it does just crash instead. If it turns out this isn't really a symptom of the problem, then we move on to the next step.

I had a lot of infinite save / beyond-reasonable save time issues in the past from broken items being either in Buy Mode or buydebug. As in, ever glimpsing the catalog section they were in would guarantee an infinite save. And that save attempt could happen any amount of time later, which made narrowing it down to that source very difficult.

That's something to consider, as if the problem persists in your regular loadout of mods and CC it could well be something that lies relatively dormant until the game tries to access it. Could be an object, could be a piece of clothing that has rolled into the outfit of someone in town, etc.

Here's the stats! But when this time magically there was no crash!
a-800-1700mb
b-2300-2500mb
c-2300mb-2500mb

Yikes, that will take a lot of time to narrow down especially since i have 23gb of cc  and if its random I will never know

I'll mention that the culprit in one of my cases were broken parts of KT's Store Fixes, of which the three files are DecrapFixes, StoreFix_Fixes and XMLs.package. With some luck, if you have those in your mods or overrides you could see if they're also the issue here.

23gb of content is also very intense to have in the game simultaneously. It might be worth playing with only the things you know your active family is using right now and introducing things as you encounter a want or need for them, and noting whether the save issue ever reappears after doing so.
You can also open a new game and quickly pan through every category of Buy Mode then attempt to save, which would at least confirm if it's something in the catalog.

DecrapFixes.package is known to cause an infinite save if you enter buydebug. These fixes aren't needed if you switch to only using S3RC on store content packages instead of Decrapify, though.
And there is an outdated version of XMLs.package that causes the same issue in regular buy mode, from some broken objects that show as blank thumbnails in a few categories. It was some years ago I fixed this one, so I can't remember if the version in KT's original post still has the issue- I may have fixed it myself at the time or downloaded someone else's fixed edition.

I haven't encountered any issues with StoreFix_Fixes.package, but I thought I'd list all the parts so they know what all came from the same set of downloads.
