Pregnancy question

Post by NeutralWarlock » November 30th, 2023, 9:01 pm

Hello,
If a neighbourhood has a pre-made pregnant Sim, or I leave a pregnant Sim to control another household, will having pregnancy turned off in story progression mean all pregnanies are effictively aborted/cancelled for inactive Sims? I thought turning it off would only stop Sims giving birth without my instructions (not counting pre-made pregnant Sims). I think it may have happened to Joanie MacDuff in Moonlight Falls but I'm not sure, as she's no longer wearing maternity, although she was previously (and I've never loaded her before). Thanks.

Yes, disallowing pregnancy will terminate existing ones.
There is a note about it in the Rotational Play settings. You will need to enable it at the Sim level to protect individuals, and you can use MasterController's Pause Pregnancy to prevent one progressing until manually resumed :)

Thank you, I will remember to leave that option set at "true", as it originally is.

If the nraas SP is switched off along with EA SP, then random pregnancies should not occur that I did not control my Sims to do? I will have "allow pregnancy:true" because I still want my controllable Sims to have babies when I have them do it, and for pre-made pregnant Sims too.

I'm not all that familiar with what the EA system can force when no progression is in play, but I imagine that would technically work.
Maybe someone more familiar with the nuances of the difference between Pregnancy 'Can Be' and 'Participation', and what combination of settings would disable only pregnancies being pushed by progression, can offer some advice.

Generally speaking, you can be stricter with StoryProgression on and tailored to your preference rather than allowing the game to run wild with its own idea of the best way to manage the population (which it partly does without its own SP)- as mentioned in the other thread, none of these NRaas SP settings will be taking effect with it off.

If any progression is disabled EA and SP I don't think that babies will be born. If nrass SP not enabled will set all SP options to -- not working at all.

You can simply use Mastercontroller for most of all things manually, so it's under your control like
make sim pregnant from partner OR Instant baby immediately.
Under mostly every nraas mod is a Doc/Documentation page where you can find all options listed with short explanation. Search the page for a term and there you go

participate means the sim who makes the other pregnant, so mainly men.
And 'can be pregnant ' is the one who gets pregnant, mainly the women.:)

That is not what is intended. Participate means either/both sims, the one meant to become pregnant and the one meant to impregnate. False renders the sim sterile and unable to do either.

hm, ok then I seem to have misunderstood, or simply forgot, because I use standard pregnancy settings, which are set by default.

Pregnancy: Allow Participation
Whether the sim can participate in a pregnancy
This option is tested against both sims in the coupling and is essentially a sterilizer for sims.

It gets clearer when reading the SP caste FAQ
StoryProgression-FAQ-Caste#How-do-I-ena ... -pregnancy
