Stopping WA opportunities in home world?

Post by Turjan » November 29th, 2023, 10:09 pm

Perhaps, I'm just bad at searching, but does anybody know of a way to stop those job or school opportunities that require you to travel to a vacation world from showing up in the game, if WA is activated? They often make up half of all opportunities, and traveling back and forth all the time doesn't really help with my game's performance. My usual solution is to just cancel those offers, but sometimes, it would be nice to have a different opportunity that is easier to fulfill instead.

I don't know the answer but want to second the desire/preference/request. I have no use for the "travel to X location and perform Y action to get a 10% bump in job performance" type of offers, and if my sim wanted to learn photography, she'd have done so already. Plus, some of these opps are broken.

It should be possible to tune this given the existence of this other mod:

I wouldn't know where to start though.

The technical information for the mod you linked mentions Opportunities_EP11.XML, so I checked the GameplayData.package, and there is also an Opportunities_EP1.XML. I opened that and searched for the <TargetWorldRequired> that Nikel mentions. As is to be expected, most of these specify one of the WA worlds, but a few require Sunset Valley.
I assume making a tuning file with these opportunities removed would prevent them from popping up?

My reasoning may be flawed though, so use at your own risk. Also, I'm not sure if the game will get hickups if you don't remove those opportunities from the subsequent tuning sections as well.

Hmm, I have never looked into modding, but at least there seems to be a possibility.

Hi, I was curious so I made a package for this if you'd like to test :)
Download here.

This is the Opportunities_EP1 XML with almost* all of the ChanceToGetOnPhone tags tuned to 0, as it seemed to be the cleanest way to hide them from your regular gameplay without cutting them out in a way that might disturb completion tracking on sims that did do them in the past + less guesswork and testing required for pinning down specific ones are in a chain that requires travel.
They'll still appear on the job board if you feel like picking one up on purpose and you can remove the package any time you want them back.

*I tuned the Martial Arts and Photography skill opportunities back to default so no tournaments or skill challenges would be negatively affected.
Rabbithole opportunities (school/career) also don't have a toggle like this. Alternate version with them removed here, use with care.

I don't have a chance to test it for the time being, so let me know if it does anything unintended.

Thanks for trying this out. I'm curious though, which opportunities are affected by the edits? I mean, I can probably come up with a few possibilities if I think about it, but the annoying ones that come to mind are all job- or school-based, and it sounds like this mod wouldn't alter those.

From what I could see from looking through the SunsetValley world requirement node that Cassie pointed out, there were still a decent chunk of phone call opportunities that connected to similar opportunity chains. Skill ones mainly, like JogInEgypt.

Though now that I look at it again, I didn't realise there were quite so many rabbithole ones. I've added an alternate version above that snips them out as well- this kind of change is one I'd double check doesn't throw any errors before leaving it in play.
The other references are just to strings so they should be fine.

Thanks, I'll have a look when I get a chance to play some more and let you know what happens. I'm not afraid of blowing up my game (temporarily), so should be is good enough for me.

I only now see this, and that's awesome. I'll try the mod(s) out soon. It's those many rabbit hole career opportunities that bothered me most.
