I finally got around to doing a complete uninstall and re-install of my Sims 3 game (I was testing stuff before doing a complete uninstall) only to find out in the past 2 years since I did one, somehow my original Sims 3 dvd became corrupted (I noticed some scratches and marks but it worked before) can you download and use the online version through the EA app just to get the base game re-installed and then install the rest by dvd? I did find one article on the EA answers HQ that said you could but just wanted a second opinion since everybody on here gave me a lot of great help before. (I do plan on trying to get another dvd of the base game original version)
update-I tried installing the base game through the EA app, then I tried installing WA from the disc-that didn't want to load, so I tried High end loft stuff and Seasons and they would bring up the installer, but coincidentally I bought WA, Ambitions, LN, Pets and IP through the app so I could get the registration rewards from the store so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not-that it only wants to install the digital versions instead, any thoughts?

My first thought is, sorry but what difference does it really make? Once your base game or ANY one of your Expansion/Stuff Packs are installed through Origin/EA App, you are on Patch 1.69 and are running a digital install version of the game with no options or say in the matter. I may be missing something there, but am not really seeing the benefit of further disc installations since you are in the end going to land in the same place wither way.

I really didn't want to install the digital versions or version 1.69, I only have about 4 of them bought (only to get the registration rewards) so wouldn't be able to run the full game files-I have all the discs, I know the base game, WA and Pets dvd discs are ok because I tried it on another computer, but it's almost like once I bought the digital versions, my computer is saying no no to the disc versions, when I did the complete game wipe I also uninstalled the EA app and Origin, and when I was checking with a friend who installed the versions for her grandaughter, she said she had to re-install Origin to get the discs to work.
Also I use cc not only from the Sims 3 store but from sites like TSR as well and I usually installed that through the launcher.

There are versions of the base game that require Origin to be installed in order to work. Do your disks by chance say "going social" or something similar on the cover? Only the disks released before a certain year (not sure what year at the moment) can be used without installing Origin. Since EA has replaced Origin with the App, it could be one reason you're having problems.bonnielmorrison wrote: ↑November 20th, 2023, 10:58 amwhen I was checking with a friend who installed the versions for her grandaughter, she said she had to re-install Origin to get the discs to work.
If I were in your shoes (and money wasn't an issue), I would buy everything on Steam. They have sales throughout the year.

Sorry, but I'm left not understanding where you are now. The base game disc works or it doesn't, currently?
One of the variables here is that in order to perform an all-disc install, the base game disc has to be old enough to NOT have Origin on its disc cover. The ones released on or after 2012 or 2013 require Origin to install and there is no way around that. The vintage of the EP and SP discs do not matter.
Sounds like your current base game disc is older, if you can get it work, but perhaps not the case with that of your friend? Also, might there be an issue with your newer computer's DVD drive that is not allowing the somewhat scratched disc to work, such as it might need cleaning? (just guessing here, really,..)
And finally, it's recommended to always do a Registry cleanup after doing an uninstall, but before a reinstall, using a product such as Piriform's CCleaner (the free version is fine) to clean out any leftover artifacts of the original installations from the Windows Registry that keeps track of such things.

Oh, and I'll second (and third) the Steam suggestion if you can swing the expense. I jumped ship from Origin to Steam myself many years ago and never looked back except to try and help others. In my case though, I never had a disc install to begin with. The price tag for the base game and all EP/SPs (except Katy Perry) was under $100 USD during one of their sales at the time.

interesting issue while trying to re-install Sims 3
currently my computer will not detect the base game disc, the WA disc, or the Pets disc, but it does recognize some of the other ones when I put them in the drive, I tried the base game disc in my Mom's computer and it worked so I know it's not the disc, it's almost like something is blocking the base game disc from being recognized, and I did run Glary Utitilies after uninstalling everything to remove any old files, the disc I was using for my base game was the one that came with the Sims 3 starter pack that included High End loft stuff and Late Night and does have the Origin logo on the back, so another dvd might work? I tried re-installing Origin from my Seasons dvd and it gave me that message about you have to be connected to the internet when logging in for the first time, I tried Origin thin and it wouldn't install, maybe a version from an earlier EP? or maybe try re-installing Origin from a clean boot or safe mode and then try the disc again?

Sorry, but I think we might be going in circles a bit here. If you use any of the discs to perform an Origin install, then again you will be on 1.69 and have an Origin/EA App controlled game on Patch 1.69 even if the actual executables are at first disc-installed. If the goal here is be on an all-disc 1.67 install, then Origin and the EA App need to not be in the picture at least as far as TS3 is concerned and I'm afraid it sounds like this isn't going to do it.

the main issue is now my computer is not detecting the base game disc, I had up until Seasons installed and only patch 1.67 originally, I know the disc works as I tried it in another computer and later versions are detected as well as other dvd's
