Hardcoded costs

Post by Simphobic » September 12th, 2023, 2:34 pm

I was playing around a bit with changing prices of services.

I found out that resort workers and maintenance workers seem to be hardcoded to cost their 25/50/100 whatever depending on quality and hours for regular workers.

also, adoption service sim seem to also be hardcoded to share cost with social services picking up neglected kids, and also pets adoption/pick up neglected pets. If you change to like 100, all of those will cost 100.

anyone know any more of these relationships?

You can use nraas Register to change the cost of any service and more :)

thats where I found it being hardcoded to those prices for resort workers.

same with how adoption service sims work and both for pets and humans ”share” the same coding it seems so any option applies to the other.

also noticed that newspaper sims are hardcoded to be only children it cant be changed interestingly.

Yes the ages are hardcoded because of uniforms, it is mentioned in documentation of Register.

I don't know why the costs cannot be changed, we need to wait for Chain_Reaction.

The tuning for these just aren't in the service tuning itself / the value there looks to be overwritten elsewhere.
Maintenance worker wages are in the ResortManager tuning and shifts on the front desk are in the ResortFrontDesk tuning. I'm not sure if the resort workers have one too or if they share it with the maintenance worker, but I couldn't see a reference to them in any of the XML with 'Resort' in the name.

aha I see. So the cost window in nraas register for those service sims are ”false” if that make sense. Cause editing like mixologist or maid cost works just fine but maybe those are in the service tuning file.

would you know if editing the resort xml also tunes the values we see in game so when we choose the number of maintenace workers will it still say ”25-50-100” even if we change the numbers.

Strings generally call for the values to be displayed rather than have them written verbatim into the text, so I imagine it's more likely than not that the changes would be reflected whenever they are referenced ingame. Depends how lazy EA was feeling at the time I suppose.
