Having two Sims from different homeworlds vacation together

Post by vienibenmio » August 14th, 2023, 3:44 pm

Hi all,

I'm wondering if this would be possible with Traveler and, if so, the safest way to approach it. Basically, I want two Sims who are each from a different homeworld to meet up on vacation, and then have them return to their respective homeworlds at the end without losing their homeworld identity. Right now I have Sim A's world as the main one, and used Traveler to travel without any Sims to Sim B's world, and I was planning on having Sim B travel to Sim A's world, then have them both travel to the vacation world, have them both travel back to Sim A's world, and then have Sim B travel back to his world from there. Does this risk losing Sim B's homeworld, though?

Thanks.

Okay, so the part where you are first transitioning active gameplay to World B is not really relevant. From there, the plan is to go
B - A - vacation world - A - B, correct?

That should work as you would be carefully retracing your steps backwards after the time in the vacation world is finished, but there is always the risk with multi-point travel that something is going to go wrong like a fresh, never been played instance of A or B loading on you by surprise with no way to get back to the already played version.

Many players have success with this but it does fall into the category of Things That Igazor Never Does™ because of the confusing risks involved in getting everyone back to their correct worlds in the end.,

Thank you! It sounds like I should just save frequently and be ready to start from an older save if needed. I'm more worried about Sim B losing his relationships in his homeworld, but guess I can add his family back if necessary.

Also, is it better to use "return home" or the travel option on the phone when returning both from the vacation world back to World A? Or does that not matter?

Return Home, I think.

There is another way to approach all of this, without so much danger of things going wrong though it's not perfect. Travel Sim B to the vacation destination, get them settled in wherever they are staying, and then do MC > Invite Over > Homeworld to pull in Sim A,. You can't control both sims this way and Sim A is really a scaled down mini-sim representation of themselves with the full sim still being back in their homeworld,. Shimrod's Three Day Visitation mod also helps so that you don't have to keep re-inviting Sim A to spend the night each evening after the first time (which gets redundant and kind of moronic after a while). Make sure that Sim A successfully returns home, as in the mini-sim no longer has any presence as a tourist in the vacation world, before the actively controlled Sim B goes back to their homeworld.

Not a perfect solution by any means, but with my sims' extended families scattered all across different worlds I've arranged many successful family reunions at vacation homes this way over the years. It helps to make things more fun though if there are more than one sim in the original travel party, so that the player at least has some semblance of a household to control rather than just one sim.

That sounds like a good workaround. Would I just have the minisim return home through traveling back to their homeworld via phone and leaving Sim B in the vacation world, then going back to the vacation world and having Sim B return home?

Also, would the minisim retain relationships and other things she made on vacation? The tricky thing is I want Sim A to get pregnant with Sim B's baby on vacation, and have him be shown as the father in the family tree in World A even though he's back in World B

As you are only managing one extra sim, the way I would do it would be to visit Sim B and use Add Sim to move them into Sim A's household (if there is nobody else in B's household and you have important items in the Family Inventory, place those down on the lot before you do so + note the family funds to restore later). Then you can go about going wherever you want, back to A's home, then on to any other destination.
When your travels with B come to an end, visit their homeworld again and Add Sim them back into their old home.

The more advanced method of chaining the worlds (as well as the mini-sim method) would be more suitable if you have some more complicated things to manage between the households like real estate and vacation homes, but this way was how I juggled rotating play between my main world and France + having family members go to and fro as if they were exchange students.

Although invited over, the mini-sim is then officially a Tourist. To make them "go home," try the MC > Go Home command on them. Register can be used to coax all tourists back home with 100% chance on the option if they still linger somewhere else in the world. Tourist mini-sims are not under player control and do not need to travel by phone/computer to leave the world they are visiting.

No, you can't do that with mini-sims. The pregnancy/conception won't work out. Either your original plan then or in combo with what CardinalSims has suggested would be more suitable.

That said, I have seen two visiting mini-sims try to make a baby with each other while visiting. My fault for not giving my guests enough toys to play with and choosing to not lock the bedroom door mid-afternoon, I guess. What actually happened was no one got pregnant, but the next time I simulated their homeworld, they suddenly had a child (not baby or toddler, an actual child) who never existed before. I was too worn out from all the flipping back and forth to replay that visit, so I just played it forward from there. I mean, they had 12 kids in the end anyway and she was #10 or 11, so who would notice one more mouth to feed and kid to send to school and then Uni? The other oddity was that I had no chance to play through a pregnancy that never happened, so I couldn't do the usual fruit trick to influence gender. The daughter turned out pretty good though, just ask her 11 brothers.:)

Thank you both for the suggestions! I will probably go with CardinalSims's suggestion this time (that sounds like a really good method, and I think I've used something similar in the past with good results) but keep the mini-Sim option in mind for circumstances in the future.
