Homeschool Not Available

Post by Calista_Drake » July 19th, 2023, 9:37 am

I want to enroll my teen in homeschool, but the option is not available. I downloaded the latest version of Careers, even though I had the same version already installed, but still couldn't enroll her. I also downloaded and Installed the Academics and Self-Employed modules, just in case I needed one of them, but still can't enroll her, either with the computer or with MC. How can I fix this?

Does the world in question have a City Hall? That is where sims who are homeschooled are to be enrolled technically and it wouldn't be possible if the lot/rabbithole does exist in much the same way that you cannot register a sim for a traditional or custom school that is not present.

Yes, the world does have a city hall.

Okay. Then can you send a parent of the sim in question to City Hall to register their child for homeschooling or is that not an option either?

And another thought -- might the teen in question be too close to aging up to be enrolling in a new (to them) school? Does it work for children or younger teens, by any chance?

The household is not on a vacation at the time? Is the teen actually enrolled in school anywhere right now?

The only other idea I have left beyond those is that maybe the Careers School module is required for homeschooling. I don't really remember this as a requirement and our documentation doesn't seem to insist on it, but it's been too many years since I've played without that module present to remember if it had anything to do with homeschooling in particular like it does with the custom specialty schools it provides.

Her mother has no option to enroll her at City Hall. She and her mother are the only members of my active household, so I don't know if younger children can enroll.

The teen had just aged up to teen, and was automatically enrolled in high school. I tried before the end of that same day to enroll her in homeschool. Since I planned to move her and her mother to a different world at the end of that sim week, I deleted the school. But now that I've moved them, the issue remains, not that I expected anything different.

I switched to a different household to find out if children can be enrolled, but they can't either.

In case it makes any difference, I am playing in Windows 10, which is fully updated. I am on game update 1.67. The game I had been playing for a year got corrupted, so I made a copy of another game folder, as I keep several copies, each for a different, specific purpose.. I've checked the original folder, and found the same mod issues with it. Go Here was not working, so I downloaded and installed a new copy a week or two ago, which fixed that issue. But the new copy of Careers isn't working any better than the original. I also have new copies of the Academics and Self-Employed modules. I checked to see if the mother is able to register in the NRaas self-employed careers, and as far as I know, they are all available. However, I have checked with MC, and find I cannot enroll my teen in any specialty schools either, other than the EA boarding schools.

The specialty schools are from the 'School' module. This is different to the 'Academic' module- that's just a degree for University.

I tested on a game with nothing but NRAAS Careers and the option to enrol was available on the computer, but not at City Hall. It's just 'Enrol at School' and then homeschooling can be chosen from the list, just in case it is on the computer and you overlooked it.
With the School module, there is a direct home school option also available on city hall.
Maybe worth noting this in the documentation, unless someone else can confirm it isn't meant to do that?

This is the Careers Mod School add-on module...as Cardinal says, it is not to be confused with the Academics module.

Thank you, guys. I downloaded and installed the schools module, and it's working now. Somehow, I missed seeing that one on the Careers page when I looked before.

@CardinalSims, I did try to have my teen enroll when I only had the Careers mod with no modules, because I thought no module was needed, but the only school option that came up was high school.

To be fair, I may not have clicked through the interaction on the first test and only the second. I forgot that you can also use this option to pick between multiple school lots.

I can see references to homeschooling in the Careers base package, but it seems it was otherwise merged into the trade school module and will not appear ingame without it.
