Can't bring children back from Oasis (Future) even when children are 'allowable travelers'

Post by iridian » July 14th, 2023, 4:57 pm

TL;DR: As the title states.

Details: I know to set children as 'allowable travelers,' and usually, I just allow ALL of those options to travel with me (such as pregnant or recovering sims, etc.), because you never know what your situation will end up needing to be.

This 'not being able to bring children back from the Future' has happened a couple times, as I've experimented in different ways to see if I could figure out what the issue was.

1) The first time, I was a single young adult sim and adopted a Future child that was born in Oasis and tried to bring her back with me. When I couldn't, I thought that maybe there was weirdness because she was born in the future, adopted (and maybe there was a technicality in the code that didn't see her as being related?!), or both.

2) So, the second time, I had a single young adult sim who conceived a son in her home (present) world (I think it was Moonlight Falls). When that son was a child sim, the mom-sim went to Oasis and took him with her. After two sim weeks there, I tried to have them both return from Oasis to the home world and again, the game would not allow my sim to bring her son back with her from Oasis.

In both examples, the game did not give me any option for travel at all with either child. If the child was the active sim, I would click on the active portal but would get no options. If the adult was the active sim, I would click on the portal, and there would only be the option for the adult sim to travel back alone and no 'travel with' option as there usually is. Again, both times, I had Nraas Traveler previously set to allow for all kinds of travelers. And both times, I had to completely scrap some or all of my game, because in the first option with the adopted Future child, I didn't want to play the game at all after losing a child that I was attached to and was forced to leave behind, and in the second example with the home world biological child, I had to scrap two sim-weeks worth of play in order to revert to the save I made immediately before bothering to travel to Oasis in order to keep my child in the game.

As an aside, I had a female adult sim once travel to Oasis and she was able to successfully travel back to her home world after becoming pregnant by a Future sim, and the (half-Future) child was born in the present and there weren't glitches (but my golly, I was scared to take him into the Future to meet his father, because I didn't think the game could handle it- can it?! So sadly, I didn't take him back to meet his dad.).

I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, because I can't seem to bring children back from the Future. Please help me, as I'd like to try to travel to Oasis with children again (I just love both Oasis and child sims, so I'd like for once to play a game where I can play freely with both!), but I can't think of any other method to try. Thanks so much!!

This sounds either like an EA bug, or some kind of mod conflict breaking EA functionality- because as far as I know, the future portal never had age restrictions on it to begin with. Or if it did, EA allow things in the future world that inherently conflict with that.
That traveller option is for World Adventures vacation worlds and University.

In the times before I played with mods, I played Into the Future and had a sim give birth there and return to the present with her baby. I'm not sure if the offspring ever went back for subsequent visits with her in the Child stage specifically, though. Unlike any other destination, you can spend an indefinite amount of time in OL by default and pregnancy and aging are not put on hold so it's quite an oversight.

Whatever is going on here, it's possible Traveler isn't actually related to the issue- hopefully, unless this is a bug caused by its changes to future travel that never got caught?

In the meantime, a somewhat janky way to save your sims would either be to save the child sim to the sim bin and put them back in the family when you got home- or if you're like me, and get attached to bits of data and feel bad if it's not the 'real' one, age them up to teen, travel home, and then age them down in CAS (then resetsim on them, or they'll be noodle-y).

Here's an idea without the noodles (nothing against noodles generally, now I'm getting hungry for dinner...). Park the kiddo in another household in Oasis. Return home. Then use MC > Add Sim > Homeworld > Oasis to force the full-fledged child sim into your household again, in your own homeworld.

Not tested by any means, just what comes to mind when sims seem to get left behind and there is nothing else obviously wrong with them.

Thank you for clarifying that Nraas Traveler doesn't interact with Oasis Landing the way it does with the vacation and university worlds. I'll look to see if I can rule out mod conflicts.

These are really good ideas!!! Thank you!!! And yes, I get attached to bits of data. :) Like I said, I had to scrap that entire other game where I couldn't figure out how to get my adopted Future child home, because I didn't want to continue playing without her. I'm excited to try a new game using these ideas. I'll make another post here at some point to say what happened for future readers of this thread. Thanks again :D
