has Register and Simfest been fixed?

Post by Fizbyduck » June 13th, 2023, 2:34 pm

I am having a problem with Simfest and Register. No other sims will participate in the event only audiences , my sims can still participate in the event, however since I'm the only one who can perform the show, I ended up winning the event everytime. If I remove Nraas Register and start a new game without deleting any homeless at the start, the problem fixed.

So my question is, has this problem been fixed? because I don't want to remove Register but I still want Simfest to function properly. Thank you :)

Thank you everyone for helping me :D I found a solution that fix the empty simefest problem <3
Thanks to a suggestion on a reddit post and your suggestion, all I have to do is make my own inactive performers in CAS, place them in to the world and use MC to set their career to showime careers and set their career level to 3 or above and lock their career with SP so they won't change their job. I also lock their motive, age and relationship so they won't die or move out of the house to make their only purpose is to show up at simfest and performing on random lots.

Here're indept steps of what I did to fix the empty simfest (work with old saves)
1. Go to edit town > create new household.
2. Make many sims as you want to have as performers (the more you make the more competitors you will get in the event) for me it's 6 sims (2 for each career: singer, acrobat, and Magician).
3. Put them in to any empty home.
4. Use Master Controller to set their Career (MC > Sim > intermediate > Career > choose career > select sims).
5. Use Master Controller to set their Career Level to level 3 or above (MC > Sim > intermediate > Career > Level > select sims).
6. Use Story Progression to Lock their Career (click on household > SP > household/caste > Allow find job:false)
7. Then lock motives and relationship with SP (click on household > SP > household/caste > Age / Motives / Relationship / etcs) (optional)
8. Return to the game

note: to check if this work, you can use NRAAS debug enabler > click on the simfest stage > debug > force Simfest to happpen everyday at that stage)

**I'm not sure if inactive with level 1 career can participate in simfest since my Lv1 active sims can't participate (Level 3 is the minimum to participate in the event)**

**I'm not sure if teen sims can participate the event, so all my inactive NPCs are adult and above (Teens can still be assign the career with MC tho) **

here're proofs that it really work

only 3 inactive were assigned with Showtime careers (in the first picture). Others are audiences.

I did some investigation on why register cause this to happen as well, but this is just my theory since all I can do is tinkering around the mod ,I can't mod or code.
( you can skip reading this part, lol)

Here's my theory on why Register cause this problem
1.Register take control on all homeless sims by assigning 1 homeless sims to 1 role object (eg: 1 sims to a bar as a bartender, 1 sims to a food stand as a seller, and 1 sims to a showtime stage as a propriator) These sims will come to work at their assigned objects and leave when their shift is over.
2. Any homeless sims who're not assign to any object, will force to stay at home by Register (in this case: homeless showtime careers sims)
3. When Simfest start, the game will try to call for homeless showtime careers sims, but since they are under Register's control, they can't go and can only stay at their home.

and that's why we get an empty Simfest :D
luckily, When Simfest start, the game not only call homeless showtime careers sims to come, but inactive showtime careers sims as well. That's why creating Showtime NPCs solve this issue :D

Here's what I learn from this investigation
1.Service pool and Homeless pool are not the same. If you use MC > demographic to check career population, it will only show the number of homeless and inactive in each career, but not service sims.
2. To check how many service sims you have in the town, you have to use SP > Advance > Choose Service, then the number of service sims will show up.
3. When you set the number of service sims in Register, It will only affect the service pool.(if you check population via MC, the number of sims in that career will not increase) eg: If I set acrobat service sims to 2 in register, this won't increase the population of acrobat career in MC population.
4. The game will create service sims when you use a phone to call for their service.
5. The game will create 3 homeless Showtime career sims (Acrobat, Magician, Singer) when Simfest event start.
6. Showtime career sims (homeless) and Showtime service sims (call by phone) are not the same people and not in the same pool (difference name)

if there are no NPC service performers.
You may have less or no sims of this services?
you can check under Register - Service
the numbers

Register-Interactions#Service-Register-Interactions

If you use Overwatch clean homeless sims, they may be cleaned too to early.
But I don't know how this may interfere.

I've never used "clean up the homeless" as I think its too involved. Why would you want to remove the default sims from a town? :|

has Register and Simfest been fixed?

Post by Echoweaver » June 14th, 2023, 2:30 pm

There's a long history of StoryProgression causing Simfests without performers going back to when Showtime was first released. If I understand correctly, Showtime is hugely sloppy in the way it ropes in random inactives to be performers. EA's system is so chaotic that it's hard to make it conform to the kind of reasonable behavior associated with NRaas SP. The result is that SP either doesn't do that stuff or cancels EA's attempt to do it or both. The result is no inactive performers.

When I played in a world with SP turned off, I was surprised by how lively it was with Showtime activity. You could go to a venue and watch an inactive performer, performers were out in the park performing for tips, and Simfests were more active. I think folks who have been playing with SP for most of their Sims-playing lives don't realize how much is being suppressed from this expansion.

Now, I do know that Twallan looked into the empty Simfest problem, and I thought that was fixed on default settings, or at least there was an easy way to make them work. My town has two inactive performers that show up for Simfests and perform one after the other back-and-forth for the whole time. I haven't figured out how to increase that number, though.

When I poke around in Register, I can find both Service AND Role positions for Showtime performers. The Showtime self-employed careers can also be assigned to inactives -- this may be turned off by default, and might have turned it on when trying to get more Showtime activity in the town. There's no point in doing this, however, because SP doesn't push them to do anything with that career. I thinks that's also true for other active careers like in Ambitions; don't enroll an inactive as a self-employed Stylist, for example. They'll just do nothing and not progress. There is, however, a Stylist ROLE. Inactives can be assigned to that, and they'll show up at the salon to perform makeovers. Assigning inactives to Showtime performer roles doesn't appear to make them show up to perform at Simfests or show up for inactive gigs at venues. Neither does the service. (I could be wrong about both existing. It's been a while.)

So I don't know where my two Showtime inactives come from, and I haven't figured out how to add any more inactives into that pool or make sims in that performer pool do anything else around town.

I have brought this up on the forums over the years, I think once with Twallan and once with Chain. In both cases, I got the impression that more Showtime integration with NRaas SP would be a huge amount of work. Chain can correct me if I'm wrong.

This makes me want to go fiddle with this stuff again :-D

Tangentially --

I also don't use the clean up homeless functionality, and I don't really think it should be encouraged in the popup when you start a new save.

Earlier in the life cycle of the game, there were all sorts of things that could generate infinite numbers of random homeless, and that would cause game lag. A lot of that has either been fixed by the NRaas suite or other mods. Some were even fixed by EA! (no really) I think it is reasonable to cap the total homeless -- I think you can effectively do that by setting the total service and role sims through register, but wiping them out entirely on a regular basis causes more problems than it solves.

I initially stopped using it because I didn't want to wipe out the iconic service sims from Sunset Valley like Kate the maid, but I also don't want my active child to befriend the paperboy at school and then have that sim be deleted when it grows out of the paperboy service.

clean homeless option in OW wipes out only non residential Sims, means only Sims who were created to fill a function like co-workers, or jobs if less residents fill them, but they don't have any "job" or task anymore. if one is needed a new NPC will spawn.
These Sims don't "live" in town.

For simfest, give residential Sims the performance careers to have more competitors with MC.

Or set services higher like 2 magicians etc.
And reoccur? maybe this helps.

What exactly did you do with these NPCs? I'm pretty sure my residents in the performance career don't come to Simfests or do anything else.

The game will create service sims when you use a phone to call for their service.
THIS is what the service pool is for! That always confused the heck out of me. I don't think I ever noticed I could call for a performer service. I need to learn how that works. Since Showtime performers require a stage, how does it work to call a service? Do you call them to a venue?

OK, I understand that this is partly speculation, but it makes a lot of sense.

**I'm not sure if inactive with level 1 career can participate in simfest since my Lv1 active sims can't participate**
I wonder if THIS Is why inactive residents I assigned the career didn't show up for Simfests. I have an inactive who is a close friend of my actives who was assigned the Magician career, and I have an active Acrobat, and I always wanted them to do a Simfest together, but the inactive didn't participate. I know an inactive assigned the Stylist career (not the role) can't advance that career through SP, so I wonder if an inactive assigned a Showtime career by SP will just be stuck at level 1 forever and not be able to participate in Simfests.

That's all speculation. I'll load up my game and see what I can learn about my inactives.
