problems with uninstalling nraas Traveler

Post by justalice » October 28th, 2022, 6:16 pm

So I tried to travel to Isla Paradiso from Aurora Skies using nraas Traveler. First of all Isla Paradiso has loaded perfectly buuuut picking a lot to live wasn't working. When I picked the lot, the "play with this family" button turned grey and wasn't clickable. So I checked my nraas Traveler version and realized that it was 83. No matter how much I tried to delete the old package from mods/packages and to install a new version of this mod it just does. not. work. The in-game settings of mod says it's still version 83. How do I uninstall the old version and install the new version?
Sims 3 version is 1.67

1 - Easiest things to check first, are you clearing (deleting) the scriptCache.package file from the top level of your TS3 user game folder in Documents? This should be done every once in a while, but certainly whenever the contents of Mods\Packages changes in any way. Also, you are quitting the game all the way to the Desktop, not the game's Main Menu or the Launcher, before changing the contents of the Mods folder?

2 - Also very easy to check: right-click on the DeviceConfig.log file in your TS3 user game folder in Documents and check Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac) for its Modification Date/Time. It should exactly match the last time you started up the game. If the Modification Date/Time of this file is stale, that means you have another game folder with mods in it somewhere on your system that the game is reading from instead.

3 - More drastic but still harmless approach: pull you entire TS3 user game folder out of Documents to your Desktop (or rename it) for safekeeping. Start up the game but back out and note that you now have a brand new, no-content fame folder in place. Put the Mods Framework into place on the new folder and install the current version of Traveler on it (plus maybe MasterController base mod and Overwatch for good measure but nothing else). Does the mod load correctly and on a brand new fresh test game can you travel some sims properly from one EA world to another? You can always discard the new test game folder and put the pulled out one with its content and saved games back into play if you need to as the user game folder is designed to be swappable like that.

and finally,

4- What is the source and type of install of this game? Is it retail store discs, Steam, or is it the 32-bit Mac version? We know it can't be Origin for Windows since that would put your patch level on 1.69.

So I've manage to update nraas Traveler from version 83 to version 87. Forgive my stupid brain. But it didn't resolve the problem with Isla Paradiso. When I travel to this town and pick a lot to live the button "play with this family" turns grey and I just can't pick any lot because the button doesn't work on any of them. Is it somehow related to the fact that this family was originaly living in Isla Paradiso and then moved to live in Aurora Skies? Or my save file is just beyond repair?

If you moved this household from Isla Paradiso "the EA way" (without the Traveler mod present) in the past, then what should be loading upon arrival now is a new instance of Isla Paradiso rather than the one they used to live in, which in the current timeline is lost forever. But is it possible that your sims already exist in such a new instance, meaning were they pre-made resident sims, thus creating an unresolvable conflict? And, by the way, are ErrorTrap and Overwatch not present in this game?

It might be interesting to see if you can travel your sims from where they live now, Aurora Skies, to some other world they have never had any contact with such as Sunset Valley and see if they arrive correctly. That would help determine if your issue is with the current save and Isla Paradiso only. You can just discard that session without saving after finding out as this would just be a test.

Originaly I've created my sim in Isla Paradiso and she ended up inviting in her family a pre-made sim from another family. Then they moved to Hidden Spring, and then to Aurora Skies. nraas Traveler was installed from the beginning, even before this family was created. They've succesfully traveled to Bridgeport and Moonlight Falls before and everything went smooth.
ErrorTrap and Overwatch are installed.
Thank you for your patience and a great help :D

Maybe I should delete ExportDB.package and .nhd files related to Isla Paradiso in my save folder?

Sorry for misunderstanding. Let's try something different, if we could. When you get a chance, please zip up your game save folder, upload it to a third party file host, and provide a link (by PM is fine) so I can download it and perhaps see what you are seeing. Not your entire user folder, I mean just the one game save where your sims are still in Aurora Skies and haven't yet tried to travel back to Isla P.

I'm sure we do not use the same mods from other parties so this may not be conclusive, but other than the older version of Traveler maybe or maybe not having been in play until now, it doesn't sound like this should be happening.
