Residents Moving for No Reason

Post by Calista_Drake » October 5th, 2022, 6:55 am

In custom worlds I've populated, there are two households that SP always moves out of the houses I placed them in, almost as soon as I start playing. There is no reason I can see for them being moved. The houses I place them in not only have all the bedrooms, bathrooms, and furnishings they'll ever need, but I've also placed everything they could possibly need for the careers and skills for every family member, including pets, and make sure they have more than enough money to stay in those houses for life. I've played some of my own households in the same houses in the past, and have taken care of every routing issue they ever had. Yet the only way they will ever stay in them is if I set the household options to disallow moves as a household.

What could be causing SP to move those households? It's not an "I can't stand living in the same house with X" issue, because everyone in each household moves together.

LOL, sorry but I know what you mean. Maybe they don't like the view or the aroma coming from the fish and chip shop next door. Some sims just don't know when and with what they should be satisfied.

But to be sure, have you checked on Lot Inspection Failures with MC before they have had a chance to move on you?

I actually have lot inspections turned off. I don't play in rotation, and I decided it was too much work to edit houses every time some household's needs changed. They won't actually suffer from anything that might not be there. So I only take that much care with residents' houses when I'm setting up a custom world. That's the thing that really bugs me. I set up their house so it has everything they need, then they move to a smaller house that doesn't really fit their actual needs. I wonder if I enable lot inspections if they'd actually stay put.

I had a different household once that moved from a house with stable and a huge yard for their horses to a house with basically no yard at all. Would home inspection stop that kind of move?

Worth a try I know if I don't have Lot Inspections turned my sims in the Gardening career always move out of the house that has a garden to one that doesn't.

I didn't realize they were downsizing rather than upsizing. It is possible that SP is determining that, while they may have plenty of money now, the expected weekly property tax bills on the original lots are not sustainable at current income levels. Or the sims are just a bunch of cheapos. Of course we players can see when this is or isn't the case probably with greater accuracy, so setting the moving out restrictions on the individual households we wish to stay put is often the best answer.

With or without rotational play, I usually have a lot of fun working with the lot inspection routines and making inactive households compliant (at their expense) when I can. It's not the sims' fault that they can't simply buy new furniture like cribs and pet beds when their household starts growing up or expanding in size. Then once everyone is passing except for those whom I can't make pass because their houses/lots are just too small, I sit back and let SP do its thing and see what it comes up with after a few runs of the Lot Manager and some sim weeks have gone by.

But that's just me. I don't try to play an entire world, but I do like to guide worlds full of sims I would never play myself into what seem like sort of logical life decisions.

I don't do the taxes or daily expenses anymore either. I did for a long time, but the rich households' money disappeared way too fast, even though I gave them enough cash at the beginning to pay their taxes for weeks. But they don't get the opportunities or raises active sims can get, so I decided not to allow SP to take money away from them that way.

I guess I'll just have to remember to always disallow moves for the large, wealthy households.
