How to install mods?

Post by Ghiby » September 30th, 2022, 6:07 pm

Hi all on 2022,

I'm back to Sims 3 on a new laptop, just for the fun on it, I'll keep playing

how do I install the mods?

it used to be on the old site, a link with detailed step-by-step instructions, and now, here, I can't find it easily

I remember
- download
- unzip
- move the file to Documents\EA\The Sims 3\Mods

which I did, I've created the Mods folder since it wasn't there by default and I've moved my favorite mods like Master Controller, Relativity, Overwatch, and a few others I think, to the Mods folder

it used to be also like a test mod that will disable the Intro screen

well, it's not working for me, the Intro screen is still there, and no mods are active, so I guess I'm missing something, a step I need to do?

thanks in advance for any help with this

This is the page with the instructions and the downloadable Framework that you are missing: On a new user game folder, just creating a Mods folder and nothing else is not quite gonna do it. :)

There's a yellow banner at the top of each mod page that links to said page.

aha, yes, that's it, I knew I forgot or missing something

so, I've tried to download FrameworkSetup.zip but the link is broken, won't work for me, and nothing will download from the sink you've sent me

can I find it someplace else? is it by any chance here on our NRRAS website, available to download??

I did a search here, before asking, and aside from my post, I found another one with two links, none of them working to download this FrameworkSetup.zip

where else could I find it?

thank you much for the fast response

good point and I saw that, but it's not mentioning the FrameworkSetup.zip that's needed to set up everything before even getting to the mods

might be a good idea to update that, especially to make FrameworkSetup.zip available to download here on NRRAS website, since it's not working on the other sources

thank you for the fast response, as usual...

Are you just clicking once on the Download link? If so, you're right, that won't work. You need to right-click on the blue download link and choose "Save link as..." from the menu that pops up. :-)

aha... yes, that was it, I was just clicking once, twice, many times on the "Download" icon and link, and expected to start the download, as usual, to my Downloads folder, or any other folder I may designate

I didn't realize I need to right-click and set the target destination, even if it's stated in the description, I overlooked it...

so indeed, I was missing the Overrides and Packages folders and the Resource.cfg file

I'll correct it asap and try again... it's so odd with no mods, once I've used the mods for years... hehe...

thank you for the fast response, I much appreciate it

(Puts on Customer Service hat)

I respectfully disagree. The only ingredient in the Framework that the user really needs and that they can't create themselves without knowing how is the Resource.cfg file and we DO make it available on that page for the Do It Yourself-ers, further down. It's just a text file really, nothing proprietary about it. But the rest of the Framework includes the two sample mods and those are property of the host, MTS, who also provides the screenshots that show you what it should all look like in the end. We and MTS are just good friends, honest, nothing more. We don't want them to host our downloadable files any more than they want us to host theirs. :)

Players who have trouble downloading zip files from unscripted, out in the open links like on the MTS page should try a different browser (or yes, in this case right-click and Save Target As) instead of immediately blaming the source server or insisting that our documentation is not complete. I actually think it's overly verbose, but that's just me.

Glad you got it working again, though.

(Takes off hat and clocks out) How did I get this silly job in the first place, again? :|

quick update,

after properly setting it up with the framework also, I'm glad to see the mods working again on my lil' new laptop

@Igazor, I see the reasons of not posting here the entire Framework.zip, so it makes sense when you put it this way, was just a suggestion

me, as a player, I'm not a creator of mods, so I'm not inclined to make my own mods, I'm more of a consumer, and I'm grateful the skillful creators are generous to share their mods creations with us... the game experience is no doubt more pleasant and after using them for so long, it's really odd not having the mods... hehe...

thank you all for your fast responses to this topic, I appreciate it very much
