Need help with log file setting

Post by Nindigo » August 17th, 2022, 11:50 am

Hello guys,

I seem to remember once having read about a tip concerning the security settings of either the Sims3LauncherLogFile.log, Sims3Logs.bin or Sims3Logs.xml - I don't remember which one it was. The tip was to set the security setting of the file to 'no read' in order to get the game to shut down correctly.

The issue I'm having is that my game will frequently take ages to shut down. I know how to shut down the process, but more often than not, I can't ALT-TAB out. Yes, I do play in full screen mode.

Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice.

The change you are thinking of is to deny Read rights on Sims3Logs.xml to SYSTEM and Administrators. This should prevent the issue introduced by EA on their server end where a 1.67 game never shuts down if the user was logged in during that session, at least not until a force quit or a system reboot.

I don't really think it's going to solve the issue where the game is slow to shut down. That's usually caused by continuous attempts to write to the FeaturedIItems folder whether doing so is blocked or not, but there could be other culprits. Have you considered reverting to Windowed mode just before quitting instead?

Thanks for jolting my memory.

My Featured Items folder is always set to not be written. It's just what I've been told is best, but I'm no techie.

The save where I'm having the issue is one where I run with every single pack (Origin-user, sorry to disappoint), so I'm guessing it's probably a case of just being slow to shut down since it's slow to boot up as well. For the same reasons, I'm assuming.

I will do a revert before quitting and see it if helps. It seems a good idea - thanks. I really wish there was a way to resize the HUD without touching the resolution. It's related to why I prefer fullscreen mode and to play with a lower resolution than my actual screen.

:)
