Tunings not taking effect?

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Tunings not taking effect?

Post by Draganies » May 7th, 2022, 7:46 pm

Hello! I have played with NRAAS for years and am moderately proficient at troubleshooting problems with modding my sims game but I came up with a whole new problem today XP
And, as you may surmise from the steps outlined below, I have a poor understanding of how the troubleshooting steps actually impact the game so I suspect I may have done what amounts to the same thing several times but I sure am trying XD

So the problem is:

All my mods are appearing normally, the settings I change appear to be working (e.g. tempest is working, stort progression is working as far as I can tell) but I used retuner to change how many traits sims get at each age and I noticed it didn't take effect right away (i.e. no empty trait boxes showing up in the sims profiles) but I thought, maybe when they age up? Nope.

Toddler aged up to child and I could only select one additional trait instead of two as I expected.

Other retuner settings are working though. For instance, I changed rabbithole sales frequency and duration and improved the bunkbed quality - those are both working.

I did recently install Into the Future and University Life. That's the only new thing about my game setup. I've even removed a ton of mods to simplify things while I get to know the new content.

I am using a bunchity bunch of NRAAS, a couple of unhiding/recategorizing mods for build/buy, add any lot size, icarusallsorts' Time To Eat mods - nothing that should be impacting the trait manager as far as I can tell.

Im playing in bridgeport with an EA bin family, which is new to me. I usually create my own but that shouldnt be a problem, should it?

So what I've tried is:
1. Reset Everything (MC)
2. Reset settings and import the tunings again.
3. Quit, Clear Cache, Restart
4. Quit, Clear Cache, Restart + 1 & 2; (let the game run a few minutes between 1 & 2 to see if anything changed, then triggered age transition)
5. Quit, Clear Cache, Restart + just step 2 (again waited a few minutes, when nothing changed, triggered an age transition to test, still nope)

Every variation above + Save As, Quit, Clear Cache, Restart

Every variation above + switching to another household and back

Started a new game (same town, same pre-made family, same lot)

I feel like I read something about this ages and ages ago but I can't find it now. Sorry, if this is an obvious fix xP

Thank you!!

How many traits have you set per age? I've noticed that if a sim has fewer traits than EA standard allows for their age, I can still only select one more when they age up rather than filling in all available slots. (The sims also have blank spaces where the traits would go but not necessarily anything that looks like a blank slot.) If you're using StoryProgression, are inactive sims being assigned extra traits to fill empty slots?

Tunings not taking effect?

Hello! Thanks for responding

My settings are:

Babies & Toddlers 2 (EA standard)
Children 4
Teens 6
YA+ 8

From what I see, other sims generally do have the correct number of traits, although some have more than the standard but fewer than the above settings. But the active household doesn't update to match the settings at all.

I've even completely deleted the entire sims 3 folder, Uninstaller and reinstalled, installed only NRAAS mods and started a whole new game in river view, with a sim made in CAS instead of a bin family. I had the Sim adopt a kid to test with though because, like a dork, I forgot to create a kid even though that's what I need to test fhdjd

So anyway. Yeah, seems like no matter what I do, the active family isn't being impacted by this setting D:

I am having a number of other strange bugs with kids though. Also with selectability of other members of the active family (not roommates). All of these things are new since adding in ITF and UL expansions which makes me super suspicious =_=

Tunings not taking effect?

I've done so much more testing, with different mods, different settings, different expansions and I'm starting to think this tuning just doesn't work the way I thought it did.

I thought it would automatically populate the additional traits for all sims in their current age and then allow sims to gain the additional traits tuned for when they age up. Is that not how this is supposed to work?

I've actually found that getting inactive sims to gain any extra traits at all is harder than I realized. I don't know what I did "right" to make that happen in the first place, but most of my tests end up with absolutely no change at all.

There's an SP setting here:

General Options > Options: Sims > Options: Traits/Lifetime Want > Add Missing Traits

It's set as True by default, but like many SP settings, it may not affect the active household. There might also be a delay because SP only checks certain details once per cycle of the relevant manager.

Other than that, I don't know how this is supposed to work, so I can't really offer anything else.

Returner doesn't auto populate anything, no. The SP setting mentioned above should take care of it on age up if you have the Extra module installed and the setting enabled.
