Prevent doing homework autonomously?

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Prevent doing homework autonomously?

Post by puzzlezaddict » April 25th, 2022, 5:20 am

I tried to block autonomous homework by enabling the object menu on a sim's homework itself and setting Allow Autonomous to False, but that didn't work even after I quit and reloaded the save. Is there another setting I need to find as well?

I know it's a small thing, but in a big household, it's like I can't even leave these sims alone for a second or they'll immediately grab their homework out of inventory. I hide the homework in the attic and send the kids to the park, and the kids come home only to complain that they can't get to their homework. The whole point is for them to do something else. They all have 100% school performance and most of them don't have any relevant traits; it's just like they're programmed to value homework over every single other thing they could be doing.

Given how I felt about homework back in the day, this feels more than a little unreasonable.

I changed all the following settings to false. Don't know if they're all necessary but I haven't seen a child/teen doing homework autonomously since, so they had the desired effect. ;-)

Interesting. Not sure I have ever seen kids footstomp over unreachable homework when I've hidden it on them. Nice bunch of hoodlums you are raising there.

Just curious, what happens if you hide the homework better, such as off the lot, in a container, or in another sim's inventory?

I've tried dragging homework into a parent's inventory before and haven't been able to, but I can put it in a WA chest or something and see what happens. I'm not sure how I'd stash it off the lot—homework seems pretty picky about where it gets dragged. It wouldn't hurt to try though. Maybe an otherwise empty 20x20 lot with rows and rows of homework and a fence around the perimeter?

As for the hoodlums, I've been playing the orphanage household in Dragon Valley. In addition to the kids who start there, Cassidy has taken in one of the paper kids and a couple of babies whose parents aren't the child-raising type. Regular woohoo was replaced with Risky a while ago, so things happen. And the entire household is basically feral.

(to the teacher) You mean I wasn't supposed to bury my gardening project write-up in the ground, water, and fertilize it? I thought a resulting Homework Tree would grant me extra credit! :-o

Thanks Sarah_Sims, that fixed it. I was curious and decided to find out which additional options were necessary, and I found something interesting: even with Do Homework > Allow Autonomous > False on the homework itself, it showed as True within the City Hall menu. It turns out that GetHomework > Allow Autonomous was false instead.

More to the point, I set GetHomeworkForDoWith > Allow Autonomous to False as well, and there were no more rebellious attempts to do homework over a 3-sim-hour period. Oddly, with all the other settings you listed as False but GetHomeworkForDoWith still True, the kids would get the homework out of their inventory and put it down, at which point it disappeared back into their inventory.

igazor Now you've given my sims the nightmare fuel of fertilizing an Omni Plant with homework and having it multiply on them, over and over and over, piles of homework cascading past the garden and through the front door and collecting around their beds until they can do nothing else for the rest of their childhoods.

Also, the homework doesn't drag into a WA chest or onto an unoccupied residential lot. A community lot did work, with the two sims I tested it on making no attempt to go find their homework.

That which doesn't kill them will make them stronger.

I dunno, a giant pile of homework that's learned to reproduce on its own might actually kill them. Or at least it might kill me.

I wonder, if you disable autonomous it will also affect inactive sims. This way they cannot get high 100% performance.
How about changing the time for doing the homework? If all is done there won't be other action interruptions :)

Over at MTS there is a Faster homework tuning (and I think Twoftmama has also one at TFM) it is compatible with 1.67
(I suppose also for 1.69 origin/steam, needs to be tested)
.
Choose the 15 sim minutes, its the fastest time.

Thanks, but no, I specifically want my sims to not do their homework at all. I don't want to wait for inactive sims to do their homework either, or to spend half a sim-hour walking away to put the homework down before my sims can interact with them.

The inactive kids have all been played or will be played at some point, and aging is disabled for them right now. When it's time to age up, I'll make sure they all have good grades; that's what MC Cheats is for.
