My sim's fridge is empty after traveling

Post by Livia » March 25th, 2022, 2:30 pm

My sim has a vacation house in France and she also has a garden there where she grows lots of things. The last time she was in France, the fridge was full of different produce and also some leftovers of cooked meals. Today she returned to France and the fridge is completely empty. I'm really sad that she lost all that food. I always save before travel, so quit without saving and tried traveling again, but the fridge was still empty. Does anyone know what happened to the food and how to prevent this? Thanks for any assistance.

I have nraas traveler, tempest, master controller, master controller cheats, overwatch, error trap, story progression, dreamer, go here, register, retuner, and saver.

I took out story progression because thats the most recent mod I added, and now when she travels to france the fridge has all the starter food in it like when you buy a new fridge. All of the produce she got from her garden and the leftovers are still missing though.

StoryProgression is the mod from this collection that protects the contents of refrigerators from being meddled with by the game itself when active households are switched while staying in the same world. That meddling ranges from the contents being emptied out to the free food upon switches continuously inserted, building up exponentially until everyone might have thousands of free average quality eggs, potatoes, and fruit that they never asked for -- preventing that last bit is why SP does what it does, locally.

But SP isn't going to be able to provide any such protection across foreign world transitions because the mod can't really reach beyond the world currently being simulated. Not that it's much consolation right now, but I'm pretty sure that what you are seeing is only an issue with the worlds intended to be foreign by EA (the three WA worlds, Uni, and Oasis). This never happens to me when traveling around other vacation destinations and back, courtesy of Traveler. I don't really think there is a solution for this though, for worlds where it happens, even though time is supposed to be frozen there while active gameplay is elsewhere.

On this note, I was building a few months ago, and working on the houses over the course of a few weeks, and I noticed that if I saved the house to the library, all manner of high-quality produce ended up being converted to the basic normal-quality eggs/lettuce/tofu/hot dogs when I next placed the house. The game seemed to remember how many items there should be, just not what they should be. I didn't have SP installed in that user folder because I was just building and testing.

I also noticed that the bookcases received a new set of books in addition to the old ones each time I placed the lot. So some bookcases had ten times the normal number by the time I was done.

I mention this just because I'm wondering whether SP would fix the issue. It's obviously not a big deal—I mean, I can always replace the bookcases at the very end (or empty them after a test run) and not try to save items in the fridge—but I'm curious.

Before my sims travel I start a new save and travel from there, and go back to the old save when they have returned home. It feels safer that way. I remember what happened and have the screenshots, and that's the main thing. :) I started doing this after one of my saves got corrupted for some reason after my sims returned home from China and hung Pangu's Axe on the wall. (Either the game crashed or the save refused to load, I don't remember).

puzzlezaddict - I actually have no idea, but it seems like I must have done the evict, copy lot, bulldoze, replace, move back in kind of reset at least a few times along the way over the years and I don't remember fridge contents becoming compromised. But if things were bad enough to require that kind of reset to begin with, I may have just ignored it since usually what's in the fridge becomes less important than being able to move gameplay forward. That being said, my main household in Riverview still has plenty of Ambrosia in there that great great grandpa prepared when he was still with us in body as well as spirit and since it's a career reward fridge, nothing in it ever spoils. That's not raw ingredients, but given that gardening was always a favorite hobby among this household I still think I would have noticed what was described if it ever did happen with that lot.

Cororon - Well, whatever makes the player happy is of course the correct answer. I prefer my sims "remembering" the experiences they have in foreign worlds, especially but not limited to befriending and/or falling in love (or something) with the foreign locals.

But in this case, the issue is what is (or isn't) left behind in a vacation home not being there the next time. Not that something drastic or strange has happened back home in the interim.

igazor, I was wondering whether StoryProgression fixed the issue, but now it's also occurred to me that my approach to building might have been interfering too. When I'm building an entirely new lot, I start a new save each time I load the game and save the lot to the library rather than keeping the save itself. I also stay in Edit Town without ever letting the game clock run until I'm ready to test.

I think I might once have saved a lot with a cooked meal in the fridge, and it didn't get preserved, but even if it weren't 2 am I don't think I'd be 100% sure.

So maybe it's one of those weird things that never happen when people are actually playing, or maybe a mod usually fixes it but the mods didn't get to step in because the game clock never ran.

Hi,

I do not have SP installed in my game. What I do for my Sims who own vacation homes in other lands to solve the disappearing food issue is to purchase either a storage chest from one of the local merchants or download some of the 'chest-like' storage containers from Around the Sims 3 site to place in their homes.

When it is time for my Sim to return to their home world, I give their vacation home a good cleaning to make certain everything is in order for the next time they return. One of the things I do is to take the ingredient contents of the fridge and place them in the storage container. I discard any uneaten cooked foods, so it doesn't spoil. When they return I either put it all back in the fridge or just take out what they need to make their meal, no extra money spent replacing groceries.

Another thing I use is Butterbot's 'Canning Station Overhaul' mod. I use this to pre-make a few meals before they return to their home world. So, the next time, when my Sims return, they don't have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing meals and can enjoy their visit. I place the canned goods on the kichen shelf or in the storage container before they leave as well. Everything keeps and remains just as I left it.

As a side note, I also create some canned meals (like desserts) before they leave to take with them on their trip.

=======

@Cororon - I use the 'Save As' name/number method for my all of my Sims but especially my traveling Sims. My saves look something like this:

v167_SV_Miller_Home_00
v167_SV_Miller_China_01
v167_SV_Miller_Home_02

I use this method of saving before a Sim leaves their home world and when they arrive at their destination. This way their story goes unbroken and should any problems arise, I have a point to return to. The number at the end only changes when some milestone has been reached. For example:

v167_SV_Miller_Home_00
v167_SV_Miller_Home_01
v167_SV_Miller_Home_02

**Other than that, I use the 'save' command. I save nightly so I never lose more than a few hours or a days worth of playing in the event something goes wrong.
