Default Skins on Preexisting Sims Don't Appear

Post by luked522 » February 17th, 2022, 7:41 pm

Hello everyone! I know that this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with NRAAS mods, but I am unsure as to who to ask for assistance in this endeavor of mine. Anyways, the problem is that the Sims which I have already created will not take on the new default skin which I downloaded, though Sims which I create do have them. This obviously means that the mod is working, but it won't refresh the Sims which already exist. I have already tried deleting all cache files located in the The Sims 3 folder, but to no avail. They simply won't appear on Sims which have already been created. Is there any step that I am missing? Also, I've just realized that this may be abnormal in a CC-free game, but do your Sims' bodies, when they are nude, not really appear as well? Is that because there is already a skin with a mesh that doesn't come with the body? By not appear, I mean that they're basically invisible, which is why I wanted to download new skins, as this bothered me greatly. Thanks in advance for any response, I really appreciate it!

You should only need to delete the simCompositorCache.package file for new default skins to take effect. This is documented in the table on this page at MTS: https://simswiki.info/wiki.php%3Ftitle% ... ache_Files

No, this should not be happening and would suggest there is something really wrong here. I would be inclined to believe this would be down to some bad CC but you say you do not have any so I'm not sure what's going on. This is probably the reason why your new default skins are not showing up on existing sims though so sorting this problem out first would help that issue.

Do you have any mods installed? If so, I would try a test game with just the default skin installed plus any NRaas mods, if you are using them, making sure they are all up to date for your patch level and delete all the cache files again before starting your game.

Do the sims naked bodies re-appear if you do this? :-)

Hello, I guess I should've been more clear when I said something about a CC-free game; my game is far from being CC free, so I have to assume that what you are saying is correct in that there is a default skin somewhere in my mods folder that causes my Sims' bodies to appear invisible when nude, of course after the censor has been removed. I am just wondering if there is hack conflict detector I could use? I know there probably is not, but I thought I should ask just in case. I suppose the hack conflict detector, if it existed, would quantify all those instances of the vanilla game being overwritten by a package file, then it would tell me if there are two package files which both overwrite the same portion of the game. Anyways, that's my understanding of how that would work, but that's just me being idealistic about the existence of such a thing. Thanks for responding, I really appreciate your help.

Ah! I did think it strange that you didn't have any CC at all. It's good to know you're just like the rest of us CC addicts! :D ;-)

There is! Although it's not perfect, it should help you find any duplicate package files which may be the cause of your problem. You can find it on Mod the Sims: Sims 3 Dashboard tool

Don't worry that it says "Testers Wanted" (or rather "Testers Wanter" - slight typo there lol!). The tool works fine, even after all these years.

I would highly recommend reading the following article, to help you understand the results you will see when using this tool.

Sometimes my default CC skins don't change right away even when clearing the caches. I don't know why, but it's definitely a thing I've experienced a few times. What I do is use Nraas Dresser, and use that to "remove makeup" from the sim in question. It completely resets their faces so my default replacement skin and eyes show up like magic. There are probably other ways to accomplish this, but I discovered this on accident and it works for me because I usually don't like premade sims' makeup either. When I don't do it this way, the default skins usually seem to show up eventually, but it can take a few play sessions, even though I clear the caches every time.

I have no idea about sims not having bodies, though. Like Sarah_Sims said, that sounds like a different issue.

Reset Town also works.

I'm almost sure I tried that to no avail, but it's been a while, so maybe it was all just a dream I had or something. I DO remember that Reset Sim didn't work on an individual level, at least not for me, so possibly I assumed that if Reset Sim wouldn't work, Reset Town wouldn't work either. I'll give it a try next time, though.

Actually I thinking of Reroll Genetics not Reset Town.

Switching to the body hair tab usually fixes skin issues for me. Of course, that's getting tedious if it's about a whole town. I have to keep "Remove Makeup" as an alternative in mind, as that sounds easier.

Fortunately, these issues usually fixed themselves after several play sessions for me.

Pretty much anything that changes their appearance should force the default skins to show as it forces the game to update their thumbnail.
