Hello,
I did something bad.
I invited a University Sim into my homeworld via Mastercontroller. I then proceeded to add said Sim to my family via "Add Sim" with Mastercontroller. At first, things were okay, but then about 8 Sim hours later, I was flooded with 300+ Errortrap notifications.
It then proceeded to wipe my entire household BESIDES one Sim and the cat. I then did a total town reset, and it restored my family, but they were missing their jobs and inventory items.
Where should I go/what should I do from here to keep this save?
And my second question, what is the safe way to go about adding foreign Sims to a household?
Thanks!

A safe way to add foreign sims to your homeworld is to use Add Sim but WITHOUT inviting them over first. Master Controller will handle the part of dragging them into your world during Add Sim, so there's no reason to invite them first. I'm not sure what caused the problems with your household, but it might have had something to do with having the mini-sim "visitor" version of the Uni sim running around town while you are trying to add the "real" Uni sim to your household. Using Add Sim, I've pulled almost the entire Uni population into one of my homeworlds and everyone is fine, zero issues.
As for your current save, I'd go back to a previous save from before the sim was invited over and added to the household, because I'd be concerned with possible corruption.

I also don't have a previous backup of this family.
I'm wondering if I should just save this Uni Sim to my CAS bin, delete her entirely from my town, and just clone her, giving her the same traits/inventory items/skills that the original Uni Sim had.
I think this would be the best option if I can't find a backup (which I don't have).

You can use Nraas Saver f.i. to get prompted to save as. Especially when you try new things, options out, make a final save as with a reconisable name, so you can go back - or add _test-0 at the end, befor you start changing things, and again save as -1, so the 0 is your final. With Saver the next saves will get the numbers -1, 2, 3 etc. Also delete (if you are sure) or move older saves, don't keep too many saves in the game folder, because all are loaded from the game too.acottonsock post_id=86812 time=1642649958 user_id=21999 wrote: I also don't have a previous backup of this family.
Exporting the family now to library is a good tip. Hope you get it fixed.

Using Add Sim on a visiting mini-sim from a foreign world "should" work out okay if you have the four mods that are designed to provide protection for that scenario. These are ErrorTrap, Overwatch, Traveler, and RelationshipPanel. Can we get to see what some of these ErrorTrap logs are saying, especially if you already have these mods in play?
But I agree, going forward, that it is safer to use MC > Add Sim > Homeworld on a foreign sim without the visitation scenario, when there is no mini-sim copy of the foreign sim visiting. The other safe way to do this is to get the sim to join your household while visiting their world and thus bring them back home with you at the end of the trip. For Uni World though, this means that the Uni sim should first be a full-fledged resident of that world and not a resident of the dorms or frat/sorority houses when you do this although I have also had that work out okay in the end many times. Many of the first few generations of Uni students are now spread out all through the various worlds I have in play in my long-running game.
And yes, playing this game without always having some saves to revert to should things like this go wrong is a bad idea if you like the game you have ongoing and wish to continue playing it long-term.

I've attached the Errortrap I received while all this was going on. I should note, for extra documentation, all this happened whilst I was recording.
You can see me invite the Uni Sim into town here (29:29).
You can see Deeper Conversations mod trigger a marriage between the two here (33:58). However, it did NOT auto-move her in.
You can see me moving her in via "Add Sim" option in NRAAS here (34:40).
Lastly, and this is where the Errortraps struck, you can see NRAAS Errortrap begin to wipe my household here (29:31), followed by 300+ notifications, until my household was down to one Sim.
At this point, I cut the recording, did a total town reset, and my family was back to normal. Albeit, they were missing their careers and inventory items. Which is unfortunate, because I had a forbidden fruit seed in my Sims' inventory that I no longer can get back.
So one last clarification question, in order for this not to happen again, what is the definitive way to prevent this above situation?
Should I have used EA's "Move in" option? I invited her into town via NRAAS, which I thought brings their full-fledged selves with them? So why did the above situation occur?
Thanks for all your help!

Wait a minute, who said anything about married?! That's the problem here.
1 - Sims from another world invited over for a visit are always mini-sim copies of the original sim who is a resident back in their homeworld. It doesn't matter how the visit is arranged, the EA way or the MC Invite Over way. What the mods do, in particular the four mods mentioned above, is provide extra protection for when that sim moves into the world they are visiting and then, by doing that, becomes a full-fledged resident. The original sim is still in their homeworld, but that gets resolved the next time you visit there and simulate that world.
There are no mods that making visiting sims into full-fledged sims. Only a move-in process does that. MC's Add Sim (not Invite Over, I mean the full Add Sim command) is a move-in process just without the social niceties of the conversational kind.
2 - Mini-sims should not get married. That will break the game. Only full-fledged sims should get married. So if the sim had moved into town first, into their own household, that of your sim, or that of another, then they would be a full-fledged resident sim assigned to a proper local household, and they may safely get married.
We can't really support the Deeper Conversations mod here, but if that is the force that made a resident sim marry a visiting mini-sim, then it should somehow not be allowed to do that.
You can always tell if a sim is a visiting mini-sim by trying to change their wardrobe or bring them into CAS. You won't be able to by any means on a mini-sim, not EA's testingcheats CAS/subsets nor MasterController's CAS or Stylist. The commands just won't be there.

The thing is, it did NOT auto-move in the Sim when the two eloped on the spot via Deeper Conversations. It still kept the Uni Sim as a foreign visitor. Would that still cause a problem even if it didn't auto move her in?
Also, the deletion of my household happened many Sim days AFTER the two eloped on the spot. It didn't happen the moment they were married.
I just have a hard time believing that it would be the marriage that triggered the Errortraps, because it still kept her out of my household.

Sorry, I don't know what else to tell you.
-- Moving sims in while they are in a mini-sim state does not usually break anything when the four protective mods are in play.
-- Marrying mini-sims will break the game. There isn't enough data there to support a new bind like that. When an inactive sim visits a foreign world, everything that happens to them gets replicated back to the full copy sim the next time the full copy sim is simulated. So information about a new friend, for example, should carry forward to the real sim. A marriage is more than that, it is a change in familial status (even if they don't move in together) and that just can't happen, let alone stay pending forever in the TravelDB file.
And you are free to not believe me. I'll step back and let others share their experiences now.

That error basically means the entire core is hosed because something bulldozed it. I would definitely remove any mods in question as igazor stated it is doing something it shouldn't to your game.
