Add New Sim crashing game

Post by thebriamon » February 26th, 2021, 8:47 pm

Hi everyone. I haven't played the game seriously in a few months, but I loaded up my last save tonight to play some. I haven't changed anything in my game, I just haven't played. For whatever reason, though, when I try to add a sim, like when a sim dies from SP and I want to bring them back (I add them to a household, and then remove the ghost occult and adjust their age if I need to), the game crashes at the screen after "add sim" where I choose the household to add them to. This wasn't a problem at all before when I played, so I am a little confused about what I might need to do to fix this.

Thank you

- Use Add Sim to add a dead sim to an existing household
- Remove the ghost occult state to make a dead sim alive again

This is no exaggeration, but I hadn't any idea we were even supposed to be able to do these things. I mean, can we? Death isn't an occult state, it's an absence of life. I'm honestly not trying to be philosophical here, but I thought there was more to being dead than carrying a playable but easily removable ghost occult state.

But since I do feel obligated to throw something amusing in wherever I can, I'll just take this opportunity to say sometimes I think I'm not even playing the same game as the rest of you... :-o

Okay, since this has thrown you for a loop - what are my other options for undoing whoopsies like that in my game, besides just reloading a previous save? Like, if someone died from some sort of SP death accident, but I don't want them to and I want to bring them back and add them back into their neighborhood and house, how should I do that?

I also wanted to add that I checked and my game crashes when I just try to add anyone into my household, not even someone who has died.

I just would have thought there would be more to it than adding the deceased sim (assuming they do have remains in this world) and removing the occult state like some DebugEnabler or other mod that we don't offer here incantation to transform the sim in to one that the game recognizes as living. Don't go by me though, because I recover from oopsies like that by reverting to a prior save 100% of the time. So in the sense of my ongoing game they never really would have ever happened. And they don't happen that often anyway, the last one I remember was many years ago, a death by vending machine that I felt was ridiculous, it was an inactive sim I already had plans for, and that one taught me how much I needed to use Retuner to remove the chance of that kind of fatal accident from my game.

The questions I was posing like"Can we really do this?" were meant not only as an expression of astonishment, but also really directed towards other players here who might have more experience with these things.

Now that shouldn't be happening if we are talking about fellow living residents or NPCs who fully exist in the current homeworld (not tourists or out of town visitors). How large is this household? Does it make any difference if you try Add Sim on an inactive household, one with no more than say 3 sims, or one that is an unoccupied lot and not a household at all thereby creating a new household of one? Does it help if the command is only invoked after a fresh startup of the game?

In all cases that I have tried the game crashes. Right now I am playing a single person household, and it crashed immediately after a loaded the game and started up the save. This is a brand new problem that I've never had before. My neighborhood is not particularly old or heavily populated (around 75 sims I think). I try to be very careful about avoiding mini sims and in this case I was only trying to move individuals already residing in the neighborhood. The last time I played, a few months ago, I was able to add townie families to homes to become playable neighbors with no problems whatsoever. Adding townies and adding dead sims and removing the ghost occult are the only times I've ever used this function. I don't mind just having to revert to a previous save moving forward, but I would like to stop the crashing if I'm able to.

Ghost is an occult state listed in the Add/Remove Occult in MC (when you add it you even have to pick the ghost type) since they are playable now when SN came out (I use that particular part of MC alot). Not sure why adding sims to your household is crashing the game though.

Since we don't seem to have a stampede of other players rushing in to suggest alternatives, I would say that the first step would be to separate the issues. If you begin a new test game in Sunset Valley or some gentle to play EA world, can you use MC > Add Sim on a living existing local resident or NPC properly? How about on a new test game in the world in which you are currently playing?

I've added ghosts to an empty house in the past. Fortunately for me, the ghost's luggage always contained a grave. In this way, I could correctly bury the dead characters. I don't know why, but many of them don't get into the mausoleum, unless it's of course a option from nraas. But I never tried to resurrect them your way. I think someone else will also confirm that this resurrection is incorrect and that is why the game may crash. But, to be honest, the ghosts are very problematic sims. For some reason, they like to clone themselves with the most common option, for example, when traveling and moving. Sometimes such errors cause some incidents. So their place is in the graveyard or outside of this game. Just in case, if you relocate an ordinary character in this way, use the option from DE "Fix Homeworld".

I started a new neighborhood and had no problems adding sims through MC, so I guess it is just the one I'm playing in. That's a relief, I think. I wonder if I could porter my main sims into a new copy of the neighborhood? (It's Pleasantview and the sims 2 townies that populate it are v important to me)

We can actually. Luckily MasterController is smart enough to not let you blow your game up and runs special code to resurrect them when you do this. It's the same as using DE.

As for crashing, I'm not sure off the top of my head. If you temporarily switch the active household as a test and try to add someone to it, does it crash still?
