Lost jobs when changing homeworld

Post by Coriandre » January 23rd, 2021, 3:56 am

All my Sims lost their jobs when I moved my family from Riverview to Sunlit Tides and I wanted to know if this is normal or if I did something wrong in the process. I used traveler to go to Sunlit Tides with the whole family and rented a random home. I then went to edit town and installed a bunch of buildings : ambitions lots (fire station, consignment store, beauty salon etc), pet lots, a bunch of self made late night bars, a family cemetery and a bunch of store venues. I did need to create lots in edit world. I then wanted to purchase a house but the option was not there on the phone or computer. I saved as, re loaded but still same result. I then went to City Hall - traveler - treat as vacation and changed it to false. The option to buy a house now appeared on my phone and I purchased a house and moved my sims there. I waited for the moving animation to end, changed back the treat as vacation to true, did the change homeworld option, saved as and quit to desktop. I reloaded the save and my 4 sims are all jobless. The firefighter and stylist still have their careers in history. The ghost hunter and architect have no career history. Maybe it as to do with the type of jobs they had ? I do have backup saves if needed to go back and restart the process.

No, I wouldn't say that was normal. But you shouldn't have had to do Treat as Vacation > False to purchase a vacation home while still in vacation mode. The inability to do so is usually due to the lots in question not being coded as "Residential - (Player) Ownable" as viewed within Edit Town.

In case this is part of the issue, there is a bug in the game whereby it's often necessary to change a lot type to one of the Community ones (No Visitors Allowed will do) in between trying to change it from "Residential - Regular" to "Residential - Ownable" in order to get the change to stick.

Ok, if it isnt normal that they lost their jobs, I’ll restart the moving process. Not sure I quite understand your explanation though. Are you talking about changing the lot type of the house I am temporarily renting to make the purchase of a secondary home option appear on the phone ? Or are you thinking that all the empty residential lots available for purchase were changed to residential-regular making the option to purchase unavailable on the phone ?

The second one. The residential lot you wish to purchase (not stay in for free) as a vacation home with the intent of moving into it is supposed to be Player Ownable or else it would tend to not be available for sale.

But wait a minute, you might not really have a problem here with the way you did it. I just re-read your intro and it does seem that I missed something (sorry!). On the first two careers -- first you traveled your sims to ST and then you placed the lots? That means what would have been their current careers became undefined right at their point of arrival, for purposes of ST. Adding the lots later is not going to fix that for purposes of ST, I believe the lots would have to have been there at the time your sims arrived.

The second two careers are professions and supposed to be tied to City Hall. I assume of course that your instance of ST has a City Hall so I can't really say what happened there. But isn't most of this fixable by way of MasterController -- not the history, but reinstating these sims' jobs and job levels?

I restarted the process. The option to purchase a house was still unavailable via the phone or computer. Checked edit town and you were correct as all the empty houses were wrongly set to unable to purchase. I changed the lot type of the one I wanted and was able to purchase it via the phone. The jobs of the ghost hunter and architect stuck this time and I was able to continue them at their correct level. The firefighter and stylist lost their job but your explanation makes sense as there was no fire station or beauty salon before my arrival. I did not know that master control could resolve this. I found the functionality to give them the career back but not the one that would permit me to adjust the level. Where is this located ?

On the same menu. NRaas > MC > (Sim) > Intermediate > Career > Level
(but unlike Choose Job, the MC Cheats add-on module is required for this command)
