Playing the piano

Post by JohnL83 » December 2nd, 2020, 9:03 am

Is there some way that we can get sims to play different tunes in a row without having them get up from the piano after each song? Maybe a mod I missed? I tried to fill the sims queue with "preform" songs, which only works if you click the piano while they are doing something else and fill it with several songs, but they still get up between each one and sit back down each time. It's stupid! And as you all know, having them "play alone" just gives you the same song over and over! It's irritating that your Sims can't just sit down and play several songs.

I know there is also a pianist job that came with Late Night where you can hire someone at a venue to play and if I remember right they play a variety, but what about at home? Why is there no way to get your sim to sit down and play several songs other than how I described above? (something I only just discovered by accident because previously I would try to click the piano while they were playing the first song and you don't even get an option to play anything else)
I did look into mods for this, but either I am not wording it correctly or I'm not looking in the right places.

BTW: Covid really sucks! Even the mild form. I've been "mildly ill" for 3 weeks now and it's really miserable and annoying! So take the precautions folks...it's not worth getting!

BTW: I know this is OT, but I just don't feel like having a dozen posts at once. Did one of the Nraas mods do away with the portfolios for the Designer and Stylist professions? I just realized today that I no longer get them for any of my Sims in those professions. I did cross my mind prior, but I blew it off since those Sims where not part of my rotation, but I have one in each now and I'm curious why they never get them anymore?

Are you rotating with the Designer and Stylist sims? I've also never seen portfolios for those professions, but in that save I only play those sims sporadically, so I thought I just "missed" the delivery of the portfolios while those sims were inactive. I'm about to play the Designer career full-time and I assumed that I'd be able to get the portfolio this time around. I hope that's the case and that it's not just another bugged career.

And man, I'm sorry to hear you've got the crud. :( My family of 6 is sequestered away and has been for most of the year. I'm slowly going mad and I've gained 10lbs from not getting to go out and be active, but that's nothing compared to what people who are getting sick have to go through. I'm lucky that my situation allows for maximum caution and I worry a lot about all the people who have no choice but to put themselves at risk for work or otherwise. Take care of yourself, JohnL83.

I don't know about a mod for playing the piano but it sure would be helpful for them not jumping up each time a song is over. I usually just set up songs in the queue before they start playing and try to ignore the ups and downs.

I do have a sim in the architecture career and she has a portfolio. I've not tried the stylist career in a long time so not sure about that one. I use a lot of the nraas mods.

I hope both of you feel better soon! I'm one of those who has to go out and I'm being ultra careful about what I do, where I go, washing my hands and not touching my face!

First off, thank you for your well wishes. I do want to point out that what makes me most angry is that I DID take all the precautions, including moving my job to my home. The only places I've been have been my local clinic and the grocery store. I did all the mask/sanitize etc. stuff I was supposed to do!
The only thing I can think is that I got it while at the clinic the one time I had to actually go inside. Or perhaps it was thanks to those kind and noble people who just refuse to mask up because they feel like someone is controlling them. I suppose I do understand this inclination too, but it's not like we were being told we have to do that for the rest of our lives. :| Even now our local clinic has been screening patients in their cars to see if they need to be brought in or not. So I suppose I'm a cautionary tale that even when you're careful this stupid virus is a tough one! Thankfully I'm still here and doing okay. At this point it's all just sinus and feeling really tired all the time. I'm fairly certain I will recover. So I count myself very lucky, if not a bit whiny.

As for Sims. Yes I'm rotating these sims and I suppose you're right, I just missed the active time when they would have received the portfolios. But I'm curious to know why they don't get them either way. They are still in the profession and they seem to end up with other things like musical instruments and cameras.

Bekkasan, Yeah, I suppose I will do the same and just ignore the up and down part.
Thanks for the well wishes. It's been a rough few weeks! Today seems better so far...but it does seem to come in waves where I feel fine for a few hours and then I don't. I keep trying to stay positive!
Fun fact; my mother, who lives with me, tested negative! So try that one out on your brain! :-o Our home is so small we were certain she'd have it too! But thankfully she is fine. It's just so odd though because until I was officially diagnosed I was cooking most of her meals and helping her when she needed. Such a strange virus indeed!

What do the role pianists do? I think I recall them sitting there for hours playing away? What makes them do it?

That is kind of what I was wondering. That perhaps, if they can do that, there may be a way to mod it so you can have your sim play at home this way too. IDK, I know little or nothing about how mods work. Besdies I've only seen the pianist in Bridgeport and it's been a long time since I have been to that town.

I've seen pianists in Bridgeport and in the CC world Union Cove that was a collaboration between lots of simmers at Carl's site.
He was at bar or club venue that had a piano, of course, so I'm sure other venues with the correct designation and a piano would have them as well.
The reason I noticed is because my simself in that game fell for the piano player, and it was really tough as he was constantly playing!
Though I managed to ask him to a 'take a break from playing' several times during his shifts. :)
Unfortunately, once I got him to move in, that was the end of his pianist career.

I don't know how mods work either, but maybe there's a way to modify the code for the pianist career to allow others to play the same way?

I wish the music careers were more hands on as it would be fun to really play at concerts instead of them just being rabbit hole scenarios.
And having a high level 10 pianist play at a party would be great too!

I didn't doubt that you were taking precautions against covid, because you seem like a conscientious person, inasmuch as anybody can tell anything about anyone online, anways. :D

I, too, live in an area where people have...very strong feelings regarding mask-wearing. Especially ridiculous since our state was THE hotspot for a while. The public at large can't be trusted where I am. Election season made things worse. (I really hate living in this state.) So basically, thanks to working from home, we haven't left our property, except for when one of us goes to get groceries once a week. I set up an "airlock" system for groceries and packages down in the basement (my OCD has its uses, I guess). I know a lot of people don't have that luxury, which is why I don't understand the sometimes violent opposition people have to looking out for one another. :(

As for sims, I have nothing for you. My sims play for hours and hours until I force them to stop, but only if I tell them to play/practice the piano, or play for tips, or a jam or whatever. If I tell them to play a specific song they stop afterwards, as you describe, so I never use that interaction. I don't get as much variety but I don't have to keep telling them to play another song.

I didn't take it that way at all. I was just surprised that I still got Covid after taking precautions. I'm very understanding of both sides of the issue because I too really hate wearing masks and feel so badly for those who have to do this for hours and hours a day! They are awful to wear, but even though I've had the virus I will continue to wear mine. We are not 100% sure you can't get it again and I don't want to take any chances for myself or anyone else. Sorry too if my words came across that way, I have to tell you all that the whole "brain fog" part of Covid is very real. I felt like I'd taken way too much cold medicine even when I had not taken anything. No worries. Also, I am finally feeling a lot better. I am still not at 100%, but much better than I had been for the last few weeks!

With my sims I also keep the music turned off in my Options so I can send them to play "blues" or "jam" and I don't have to hear anything. LOL :)
